When asked whether the idea for Survive had come from Kojima himself, he replied, “That’s nothing to do with me! “The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage,” he continued. “Where do zombies fit in with that?”

Kojima was joined on stage by Yoji Shinkawa, the former character and mechanical designer on the Metal Gear series who is now working on Death Stranding at Kojima Productions. Shinkawa also denied any involvement in Konami’s game, joking, “If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.”

“If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.”
Now you see, then it might have actually been a good idea.
Weren't the people the Skulls controlled and, to a lesser extent, the Skulls themselves basically parasite zombies though?
Weren't the people the Skulls controlled and, to a lesser extent, the Skulls themselves basically parasite zombies though?
not exactly [sp]quiet is infected the same way, for example[/sp]
Weren't the people the Skulls controlled and, to a lesser extent, the Skulls themselves basically parasite zombies though?
They seemed like zombies to me. They had zombie like guys at one point.
No need, Hideo me old mate. We kinda figured.
Weren't the people the Skulls controlled and, to a lesser extent, the Skulls themselves basically parasite zombies though?
Including zombie-like enemies isn't really the same as making the whole game a zombie survival.
As stupid as I think the Metal Gear series is, that HAS to be such an infuriating / saddening feeling to have your long ongoing series suddenly get turned into a dumb fucking zambie survival game, even if the game turns out to be good it's such a far cry from what other Metal Gear games are about in essence. How did that happen anyway? That a Metal Gear game that's so alien to the franchise is made in the first place I mean.
Konami, putting out the Hideo from hideous.
Weren't the people the Skulls controlled and, to a lesser extent, the Skulls themselves basically parasite zombies though?
I guess he marks the difference as these being more the classical type of zombie thats only out for your entrails, instead of the Skulls for example, which on one second could be the definition of shamblers, and on the other, were enemies as strong as cyborgs. Although there were the usual soldiers that resembled zombies like that aswell. Imo, he would had made a better point mentioning how this is a quick cash grab by combining Metal Gear and its newly found open world feature with zombies. Kind of like how suddenly theres a couple dozen survival games like that out there or more.
Weren't the people the Skulls controlled and, to a lesser extent, the Skulls themselves basically parasite zombies though?
there's a bit of a difference in storytelling/creativity between "unethical generically modified/controlled supersoldier" undead in a game about political espionage and crazy military things, and "dur hburr zombie apocalypse" shambling corpses in a survival setting

My best bet is that they haven't found a way to go forward with the franchise, or at least in a path similar to Kojima's, even though it might have been a rocky one, so they are going the way of their other franchises, and release spin-offs that are terrible ideas because they don't fit at all. Imagine the devs of Gears of War suddenly forgetting how to do a GoW game, and the puzzle genre being a hot fad at the time, they put 1 and 2 together because "Its fucking GoW and a really popular genre, combined!" and voilá! You get crap. [editline]18th September 2016[/editline]
They seemed like zombies to me. They had zombie like guys at one point.
Well, we sort of also had "zombies" in MGS4. When Ocelot burned out the nanomachines and they overloaded every soldier's brain with repressed feelings from battle, they became more or less the same thing as those infected soldiers you sometimes find throughout MGSV.

AFAIK it wont even cost 60$, but 30-40$.
i feel like further down the line in survive we'd have to fight basically the skull unit my god fighting that shit was like the worst part of mgsv for me. i don't even know if i was doing it right but i remember one mission where the only thing i could do was avoid their attacks and chip them to death with a machinegun. and you had to fucking fight four of them.
i feel like further down the line in survive we'd have to fight basically the skull unit
if konami gives a shit about the lore, the skull unit didnt exist till the 1980s. metal gear survive takes place right after when the MSF base blows up, mid 70s but konami probably wont care about lore. hell i bet there will be a L4D style 4v4 missions
if konami gives a shit about the lore, the skull unit didnt exist till the 1980s. metal gear survive takes place right after when the MSF base blows up, mid 70s
in the gameplay trailer for survive they did a mission to retrieve a diamond dogs resource box, which also shouldn't have existed at that time. unless the shit that gets wormholed in comes from the future anyway, i didn't really mean the skull unit, i was thinking more just a stage-2 zombie that can hold a gun and fuck your shit up and you'd be basically fighting the skull unit at that point
Political Fiction and espionage
i do not think you understand the humor in MGS franchise
Metal Gear Solid has never not been crazy, but it was also driven by its creator's vision, not by shameless cash-grabbing. I can see why Kojima would be upset on principle. From what little I know about Metal Gear, Zombies don't seem that crazy when everything in the story line is powered by quadruple-crosses and nano-machines - but that does not in any way minimize Survive being utterly obscene. The franchise basically died when Konami let Kojima go, though, so if nothing else a Zombie game is ironically fitting.
Political Fiction and espionage
well mgs series is kinda known for having a serious tone yet mixing it with humor and fun gameplay
When I wished for a co-op Meteal Gear Solid V, this isn't what I had in mind.
i do not think you understand the humor in MGS franchise
Oh don't get me wrong, I love the metal gear series, I just found it funny that he described it like that when you can slingshot people into dinosaurs :v:
Political Fiction and espionage
I'm taking a wild guess that you never played a MGS game before :v:
i feel like further down the line in survive we'd have to fight basically the skull unit my god fighting that shit was like the worst part of mgsv for me. i don't even know if i was doing it right but i remember one mission where the only thing i could do was avoid their attacks and chip them to death with a machinegun. and you had to fucking fight four of them.
Armor unit. Only way I found to do it was to use the D.Walker minigun and fill them with bullets. And even then it was a bit hard every now and then.
I really gotta say, I've had a really high tolerance for suspense of disbelief for MGS. I can take all the crazy ninja cyborgs, high tech mechs, psychics, fucking lightning powers, etc. But the whole Wormhole Extraction Device just broke it for me.
Political Fiction and espionage
Yeah folks, you heard it here first: if you make a game about espionage, no comedy allowed! Its a video game and Kojima is well known for taking the 'fiction' tag very liberally. Its one of the reasons he's considered such a creative genius.
“The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage,” he continued. “Where do zombies fit in with that?”
http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Puppet_soldiers
We don't want another fucking zombie survival game Also anyone saying MGS had zombies in, it was for like 2+ missions and it was led up to in the story and then forgot about. It wasn't the driving point of the story that it turned into a zombie survival game
Kojima 2016:
"The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage," he continued.
Now you see, then it might have actually been a good idea.
zombie game with mechs.... i really wanna see this now for some reason
