You wouldn't download a car! (User was permabanned for this post ("alt of perma'd user" - Orkel))
Oh wow that car looks stupid.
You wouldn't download a car!
I wouldn't if it was that ugly
Oh wow that car looks stupid.
Looks like my very first attempts with 3dsMax
Honestly, it looks like a gust of wind would take it down the block.
Tbh, I think it would be cool to be able to buy a multipurpose chassis then have your own shell printed so you could make the car look how you want it to look. Maybe that way it wouldn't be as bad of an idea (apart from if you crash)
I wouldn't if it was that ugly
elbows too pointy would not download free car that signifies the immense progress of technology
elbows too pointy would not download free car that signifies the immense progress of technology
I'm happy that its a technological leap, but the design could have been worked on a bit more
elbows too pointy would not download free car that signifies the immense progress of technology
It's the same problem most automotive technological progress had/has of trying to look "futuristic" then looking like utter shit. Unless there's an extremely valid and decent reason for it to look stupid as hell, just make it look somewhat normal. It's just like how early electric car concepts were all ridiculously sleek/curvy and looked that way just to look that way.

See how amazing the BMW I8 looks with the right paintjob.
I'll never understand Facepunch's general pickiness with car designs. I almost always see people saying "gross, that's ugly." I think it looks fine, especially for its purposes.
Apparently some students from the university I attend (University of Tennessee) helped out and it was driven around campus. I'm not sure if the second part of that is true, because unfortunately I never saw it. Heard it from a friend. EDIT: Seems like the story I heard about it being driven around was false. Oh well.
I'll never understand Facepunch's general pickiness with car designs. I almost always see people saying "gross, that's ugly." This is the trap most people fall for, they try to make a ~different~ and ~too green for you~ or ~so futuristic~ design that's just absolutely disgusting. Tesla's approach is better. Make something that looks normal but good for cars.
I'll never understand Facepunch's general pickiness with car designs. I almost always see people saying "gross, that's ugly." I think it looks fine, especially for its purposes.
Personally I prefer the designs of cars before the 2000s.
Honestly, it looks like a gust of wind would take it down the block.
It's a very green car
Idk, I like when some cars try to look different. See how amazing the BMW I8 looks with the right paintjob.
The BMW I8 still looks like a car: [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/BMW_i8_IAA_2013_04.jpg[/img_thumb] Not some kids drawing of a futuristic car like the Aptera Typ-1: (if you even remember this monstrosity) [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b8/Apteracar2.jpg/1280px-Apteracar2.jpg[/img_thumb] I'll admit this is a bit of a cherry picked example, but I don't remember the names of all of those ridiculous concepts people were pumping out years ago at random automotive concept shows since none of them survived at all because they all looked ugly as sin. Throwing a search into google for "electric car" or "electric car concept" generally gives the same results of completely impractical designs, while rarely having a few that look decent. One of the reasons Tesla electric cars were/are received so well is because they look normal.
As the rest of the cars become more futuristic looking this might fit in better Personally I'd like to see lots of different designs. If 3d printed cars take off (not literally) then we could see many new designs that can be printed giving more diversity and of course we could see clones of old cars if this did happen
Personally I prefer the designs of cars before the 2000s.
Bring back popup headlights
Imagine that 3d printer "ink" would be eatable and you could put many different tastes in a printer. You could just download good sounding recipes, print the food and eat it. That would be awesome

It would appear not many people liked the design though since they were shut down and liquidated in 2011.

And besides, you could always shove grocery bags to the side or in the passenger's seat or get the rear-facing camera. Its design goal was not to be a replacement for a sedan, but a scootabout for one or two people with enough features to go about doing daily things without worrying too much of gas.
elbows too pointy would not download free car that signifies the immense progress of technology
immense? no

my dad watched them build it in person, the car uses normal non-printed suspension and brake parts so technically they cheated
And then you roll in an edible car for the family gathering because you accidentally picked the wrong model to print.
And you never thought that burnt rubber could taste so good.
my dad watched them build it in person, the car uses normal non-printed suspension and brake parts so technically they cheated
Might as well go all the way and criticize them for not using non-printed motor, tires, and whatever other parts that aren't printed. Some things just don't work if they're plastic. Oh it's actually listed in the third article:
Tires, seats, wheels, battery, wiring, suspension, electric motor, and window shield were made using conventional methods.

Oh wow that car looks stupid.
For now.. But I can see it becoming better looking. If it's cheap enough option, and any space for luggage, and seats two persons, then I can see people getting one of these. Maybe. Add a roof, convertible maybe, and keep the sorta ATV mobile look and it'll work just fine. Hopefully. Also when looking at the surface of that car, do I see fucking imperfections during the 3D printing? Those gotta be all gone in the final product. It's really rough looking.
So when will I be able to download and print myself an Audi A3 1,8T with functional engine? These "future" cars isn't something I'd throw money at.
