China’s rocket is expected to deposit the rover in the right eye of the “Man in the Moon” in mid-December, specifically targeting a large volcanic crater known as the Sinus Iridum or Bay of Rainbows, thought to be relatively free of large rocks. If successful, China will be the third country to achieve a soft landing on the moon, after the United States and Russia. “We will strive for our space dream as part of the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation,” said Zhang Zhenshong, director of the Xichang Satellite Launch Center “China’s space exploration will not stop at the moon,” Sun Huixian, a senior engineer in the space program, told Xinhua. “Our target is deep space.”
Its interesting how they used a traditional name after that whole cultural revolution business.
China's space program finally takes off.
And of course their Moon mission interferes with Nasa's current research. Definitely a fuck you to the USA's space program.
China's space program finally takes off.
They've had a space station for awhile.
I wonder if they'll re-cleanse the internet if the rover crashes.
And of course their Moon mission interferes with Nasa's current research. Definitely a fuck you to the USA's space program.
They should just knock over the American flag on the moon.
They should just knock over the American flag on the moon.
We'd use the X-37 to deorbit their communication satellites one by one. This could be the most bizarre cold war ever.

Nothing too special, except:
On July 29, a Chinese Long March-4C rocket blasted into space from the northern Taiyuan Space Center carrying three secretive, experimental satellites. Not really all that unusual by itself — a robotic arm reportedly on one of the satellites could be involved in testing for Beijing’s far-off space station program More precisely, one of the satellites, known as SY-7, was moving all over the place and was appearing to make close-in rendezvous’s with other satellites. It was so strange, space analysts wondered whether China was testing a new kind of space weapon — one that could intercept other satellites and more or less claw them to death.
https://medium.com/war-is-boring/630a858923ec [editline]2nd December 2013[/editline] [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d4/Robot_Wars.jpg[/t] IN SPACE
And of course their Moon mission interferes with Nasa's current research. Definitely a fuck you to the USA's space program.
Not a fuck you at all. We were first, we're still the leaders.
They should just knock over the American flag on the moon.
The French actually have their flag on the moon now, not the Americans. Radiation, by now, would have caused the flag to turn plain white. (User was banned for this post ("country bashing" - GunFox))
I hope this will inspire them to make another James Bond in space movie :v: [editline]2nd December 2013[/editline] Anyway space exploration should be about humanity and science, not politics and nationality - if there is something that can bring humanity together I think it is when we realise we are one people of Earth - just one of so many other worlds - and not of various countries
One space race for two please.
It looks like they have big plans. [sp]China will grow larger[/sp]
I'm glad they're doing it Maybe the US will give NASA more money and do bigger and better things than just go back to the moon
I was reading more about the time that, in 2007, the Chinese government used a missile to destroy a satellite in orbit. Way to fuck up space exploration for everyone else, China. Apparently, that debris will still be in orbit a hundred years from now, and was the largest single orbital debris-generating event in humanity's history. [editline]2nd December 2013[/editline] I only hope that their future endeavors are more responsible.
China will grow larger
They've had a space station for awhile.
their transport vehicle more than doubles the habitable space of the station every time it visits, its barely larger than your average walk-in closet [editline]2nd December 2013[/editline]
I'm glad they're doing it Maybe the US will give NASA more money and do bigger and better things than just go back to the moon
if only politicians cared.... [editline]2nd December 2013[/editline] who knows though, maybe it'll become a talking point in the 2016 election with the SLS reaching operation shortly after the next president takes office, it definatly will come up in the debate at some point, what to do with it or whether its a colossal waste of cash and that we'll only fly the 3 scheduled ones and scrap it all togather
the underlying irony is that both the american and french flags use red white and blue so the color could wash together and make it indistinguishable
The flag turns white. France and surrendering, etc.
