For years my headteacher and many pupils of my school have been aspiring to have a farm on our mid-size school in London, personally I think it would be very interesting to see this happen. It would break my headteachers heart if this didn't go through, I had her as my English teacher for 3 years and she was always raving on about it! It would be great if any Facepunchers could vote for the project in the ITV peoples millions.
The project will enable the school to undertake the first phase of a larger project which is to set up a small animal farm. This phase would involve the purchase of hens, poultry housing and equipment to rear them, to encourage students and local people to get involved in producing locally grown fresh food. Children will also be encouraged to hatch their own chickens. Local people will benefit from training and volunteering opportunities.
FAQ:
Q: Who will run the project? Will it be managed professionally? A: Grey Court Community Chickens will employ a project supervisor who will be on site throughout the year, including school holidays. The project supervisor will be trained by our project advisor, a poultry keeper with 50 years experience! Q: Will the chickens be noisy? A: At Grey Court we certainly don’t want to ruffle anyone’s feathers, so please be assured that cockerels will NOT be invited to join our hens! Q: Will the site be secure? What about foxes? A: Grey Court School already has perimeter fencing and uses CCTV. Public access will be managed by the project supervisor. Our chickens will be housed in four long legged hen houses with automatic doors and will be able to roam within fox-proof protection pens. Q: What sort of hens will be kept? A: The hens will be a carefully chosen hybrid breed with a friendly nature and good egg laying ability! Q: How can I get involved? A: Community volunteers are welcome! Grey Court will be providing training days for those wanting to learn about keeping poultry. Q: How can I help? A: We need your votes TODAY! Grey Court Community Chickens will go head to head with another London project on ITV London News. The project receiving the most public votes will receive funding. Watch us on ITV London News at 6pm for more information. Q: What number do I call? How much will it cost? A: Call 0871 626 88 41 today! Lines will be open from 9am to midnight. You can vote up to ten times per phone line and calls cost 10p per call from BT landlines. Calls from other networks may be higher and from mobile phones will be considerably more.
We are competing with another project for a children's filming course in Brixton for 9-11 year olds, which will only last 4 weeks. Apart from the fact that the films produced will be terrible it doesn't have any long lasting effect. If there are any UK Facepunchers that are able to vote it would be greatly appreciated. To vote you need to call 0871 626 88 41 and vote for the 'Grey Court Community Chickens' project tonight for the measly call cost of 10p, before midnight. Although many of you won't bother it would be greatly appreciated, every vote counts, and each person can vote 10 times! Thanks bros!
