Donald Trump wouldn't have to make $18m education cuts if Melania lived in White House
Donald Trump could reverse recently announced cuts to education programmes if his wife and son moved out of New York's Trump Tower and into the White House, figures show. Although this is not as high as when the President lived there, which the force recently revealed came to $308,000 (£248,000) per day, US taxpayers have nonetheless paid around $8.6 million (£6.9 million) to look after the First Lady and her son. The pair are expected to remain in the building until June, meaning the overall cost to taxpayers could amount to around $18.2 million (£14.6 million).

It is pretty disgusting to have such unnecessary frivolities run rampant when that money could go towards more important things. But of course, it would probably be too much to ask a creature like him to show a little fucking solidarity.
But if his wife and kid do actually move out of The Citadel and into the White House in June, that'll free up a little more dosh to put towards what's important. Still sucks that they hadn't decided to move in earlier, but hey, we can't have everything. Or, in the case of this universe, nearly anything.
He would have still cut education, you're desperate to think otherwise. This article was written because they realized they could blame Trump twice.
He's making such good deals for the american people.
To be fair, it would kind of suck for Barron to move partway through the school year. I don't know if they're going back after the Summer, but if I was the president and had grade school kids, I would at least wait for them to finish the year before transporting them to a new location.

At that cost to the citizenry? He's a billionaire, shouldn't he pay for that?
Like yes, I get it, the kid is innocent in all of this and shouldn't be made to suffer but at the same time just because he's a kid doesn't mean budgets and money is meaningless?
Do you know what kind of shit storm would be thrown over Obama's daughters if they had spent that kind of money on them?
Then you have thousands of kids who do move mid school year and end up relatively okay and this kid being the presidents kid is special enough to deserve to not have to go through that? Kids pampered enough.

I agree with you fully, but it does make a strong comparison as to what the tax money could've been spent on with a wider impact of people.
So glad he's donating his salary while racking up more vacation and personal spending than Obama - which he campaigned against

Barron needs immediate course-correction, if I'll be honest. He's at serious risk of being terminally infected with his father's ideology, if he hasn't been spoiled rotten to the core already.
Just because someone's born into money, doesn't mean they can't come down to the level of the less fortunate. If he's still pliable enough to gain insight into the truth of this world, and can turn out a better person than his father, then it's an opportunity that should be taken without hesitation. There's still a chance for him to break the cycle, he's only just turned 11. (quite literally, since today is actually Barron Trump's birthday)

Trump is objectively wasting taxpayer money.
Doesn't seem like the math adds up. It doesn't mention how much it would cost if they lived in the White House
I don't blame Melania for wanting to stay as far away from Donald as possible for as long as possible.

none since we already pay for securing the WH
the issue is that we wouldn't be paying to secure his properties if he or his immediate family weren't living there

Trump should have thought of that before taking the job. There are thousands of families that have to pull their kids out of school mid year because they have to move for employment reasons, People in the military being a prime example.
If those families just have to deal with it, why should Trump get a massive payout from the taxpayer because he wants to avoid his kid getting all upset? Isn't he supposed to be ridiculously wealthy? why can't he pay to solve the issue to his own standards himself?

Because secret service detail isn't optional for the first family. Not to mention there is no mechanism for him to directly pay for his child and wife's SS detail.
As for "other people have to do it, he should have to as well!", if it is at all possible, you should NEVER move a child mid-year and interrupt their education like that. I don't care who the kid is, if it can wait until after the school year, it should.
The first lady and the rest of the first family have separate details when not traveling together, so not 100% of these costs would be saved.
if his sons weren't jetting around africa, asia, and europe wheeling and dealing like their father pledged, then we wouldn't need to spend tens of thousands of dollars on that either.

k but i'm sure the trumps probably don't have to live in the middle of downtown manhatten where the security costs are enormous.
Trump should stop taking so many golf weekends.
He should also let the secret service stay in trump tower free of charge instead of having them rent a room.

Would you be okay with 18 million spent to keep Obama's kids at their schools?

The security costs would be the same anywhere or not that much different in the area around Baron's school.

Well yeah. No sense in messing up the children's education because their parent became the president. Now if he doesn't move his kid and wife after this school year, then I'll join in.

Trump owns trump tower, yes? I would assume he/his family would stay there for free since he owns it and his company would eat the costs? Except they're not eating costs so much as forgoing profits.
I hate trump just as much as all of you but this isn't adding up to me.

trump owns a house in new jersey just across the bay, it would absolutely be cheaper, not securing an entire skyscraper would be objectively cheaper, not securing a skyscraper in the middle of downtown NYC would be cheaper, anything but what he's doing now would be cheaper. maro-largo is expensive as hell to to secure while camp david is 35 minutes away by helicopter and has a golf course, plus built in security and communication

Yeah but there's not as many rich jaggoffs there to suck up to Trump
probably just a bunch of military personnel and staff instead, and we already know Trump heavily prefers ass-kissing millionaires to them anyway

Dude get a grip, I don't like trump as the much as the next guy. But you have no idea what kinda father he is. You just don't.
It sounds really sad when you talk like that as if you give a shit about his kid.

To live there as the First Lady and his other relatives they would need a constant security presence around the entire tower, inside and outside. Trump isn't hiring private security for this, it's the job of the Secret Service after all. So his company aren't going to "eat the profits" there, that's coming out of the taxpayer funding for the SS.
So not only is there a required presence at the White House itself, but also a permanent presence at another building (which is surrounded by other buildings, has multiple floors, and therefore multiple attack vectors so that can't be good for costs). Along with presences at any holiday getaways he uses each and every weekend.
How can you even defend security costs in 2 separate locations compared to 1?
How does that even make sense?
Do you guys think this is a 4-D chess game where you're given a limited amount of units and have to split them up smartly and "cover all your angles bro"?
The Secret Service provides the same, extensive protection to both the President and President's family.
Arguing that having them split into 2 different locations as a legitimate "protection" plan and not a logistics nightmare says much about your critical thinking skills.
But sure, keep cutting education costs that funds the future of our country to justify the vacation spending habits of the Presidential family, [del]you're[/del] your parents are the one paying the bills after all.

Last I checked secret service was being charged to stay at trump tower.
I can't believe a guy widely known to be an exploitative, lying bastard also turned out to be an exploitative, lying president.

I moved around several times mid-year in elementary school and turned out just fine - I didn't have the luxury of tax-payers $18,000,000 to keep me in one place, I wasn't wealthy, but I turned out just fine.
$18,000,000 is a lot of money spent at the taxpayers expense just to keep a child from switching schools.

And that costs £18 mil, fuck off
