Extremely misleading title... they have to pull it by car to get it up in the air and their longest flight was 19.3 seconds
Well that's the name of the video so...
I know, not blaming you at all. I wish they'd done a bit more work on this before claiming it's human powered flight. It's a really cool idea, and it looks amazing in flight.
Kind of disappointing. If you think about it this is only a little more than a simple glider. But I guess you can't do much with human power, you'd get exhausted quickly.
Flapping? Isn't that terribly ineffective compared to pretty much anything?
Flapping? Isn't that terribly ineffective compared to pretty much anything?
yeah it's not like birds have been doing it all their god damn lives or anything
yeah it's not like birds have been doing it all their god damn lives or anything
Know any flying birds that weigh as much as a human?
Would work better perhaps if they had more people powering it?
Know any flying birds that weigh as much as a human?
know any flying birds that evolved jet engines? what's your point
know any flying birds that evolved jet engines? what's your point
His point is that our muscles aren't as strong as that from a bird. in proportion of course. Think of it, make a bird as big as a human what does the bird have and the human doesn't? They got wings that's what the people are doing in that video but they forgot the huge muscles.
Jesus fuck these guys are going backwards, the biggest barrier to flight in the early 1900's was that they were trying to imitate birds. Fixed wing is the most efficient way of humans flying.

My point is that flapping wings like a bird is actually quite efficient, as demonstrated in the video.
But we already have jet engines? Isn't this a step back as far as technology and innovation goes? (only kidding around)

The cool thing about it is that leonardo da vinci made plans for this, and it has never worked until now.
This was how motor powered flight started it out, give it a decade or two and you'll be flying to work every morning.
Who cares if it isn't as efficient as a fixed wing airplane, it's still really fucking cool.
Extremely misleading title... they have to pull it by car to get it up in the air and their longest flight was 19.3 seconds
And? Do you understand how much of a feat of engineering this is? These guys have done wonderful work, and it looks pretty too.
Wow that was awesome. The design doesn't seem to be very good though. Once one of those big wings break you're pretty much screwed. Also its gonna suck having to have to go to the bathroom in that thing.
