Bernie Sanders drew more than 11,000 people to a rally Saturday night in downtown Phoenix -- the largest crowd to date for a presidential candidate whose audiences have been swelling in recent months. The Vermont senator, who has emerged as the leading alternative to Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination, got a rock-star-like reception from supporters who streamed into a cavernous lower-level room of the city's convention center. Aides to the self-described democratic socialist had originally booked a Phoenix theater that could accommodate fewer than half the number of people who turned out. The crowd estimate of more than 11,000 people was provided by staff at the convention center, where Sanders also appeared Saturday at a convention of progressive activists.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/07/19/bernie-sanders-draws-his-biggest-crowd-yet-in-arizona-of-all-places/ [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CKPhS02VAAANj9B.jpg:large[/t]
Even if he doesn't win, this represents a huge amount of unrest and will for change in America that imo can only positively affect the country.
I have so much hope for Bernie. Glad to see hes drawing these kind of crowds
He's just a badass.
What happens if the GOP dies? Can't really have a one party country can you?
What happens if the GOP dies? Can't really have a one party country can you?
GOP dies it will be replaced with something else, we have other parties that are just a lot, lot, smaller.
What happens if the GOP dies? Can't really have a one party country can you?
It would never die. At most it would fragment (Tea Party) or be reincarnated with a new name but same direction to get away from the stigma.
Even if he doesn't win, this represents a huge amount of unrest and will for change in America that imo can only positively affect the country.
Change... I remember hearing this word all the time when Obama was running the first time.
That's what I thought. I didn't even know about Bernie before reading this article but it seems like you have finally got a good fucking candidate for once, and repping independents on top of it. If he wins and removes big money out of politics, he will deal a great blow to both democrats and the republicans but the latter seem to be already dwindling with no good leader and Bernie win would probably spell out certain death for the party. I want him to win if not for any other reason than that he is independent.
I guess that's a new spin on "red state".
Change... I remember hearing this word all the time when Obama was running the first time.
This is a MUCH different situation. Bernie has no lobbyists, an actual left agenda, and his agenda is consistent rather than flip flopping.
What happens if the GOP dies? Can't really have a one party country can you?
America has had 3 parties before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_Party_(United_States,_1912) Hell, before the Republicans you had a party called the Whigs. Parties can die and be replaced.
What happens if the GOP dies? Can't really have a one party country can you?
Why do you think the GOP would die? How do you get that from 11,000 people turning out to a rally? And why do you think that conservatives and libertarians would suddenly stop contesting elections and therefore concede them to the Democrats?
Even as a member of the opposing party, I like Bernie a lot and hope to actually be able to vote for him.

So now he is doing the smart thing and running for the democrat party vote. Doesn't change his policy, but it will have a big impact if he does win through the democrats with a far left viewpoint.
What happens if the GOP dies? Can't really have a one party country can you?
It wouldn't happen, the GOP are much too large and most of the media in this country panders to their viewpoints. But if it did die, the Democratic Party would probably shift right as a result of picking up moderate former Republicans, while more fringe republicans will head to the Constitution Party, and leftists disappointed by the move right may turn to the Green Party. Would be bad, because then we'd have 2 small parties on opposite sides and one large one in the middle. But what do I know, I'm not a social political analyst or whatever.

He's only running as a Democrat because you can't run a successful campaign as an independent.

To me it seems like lately the Republicans have been getting weaker and weaker as USA becomes more and more liberal. Most millennials are going to democrats. Also look at how the GOP have been behaving during Obama's run in the office, and with that idiot Donald Trump running I can see the party self destructing. Plus like I mentioned earlier, if Bernie Sanders were to win and implement his policies regarding corporation donations then both the democrats and the republicans will face troubles because they rely highly on donations from corporations, but the Republican's receive the bulk of them so it is likely to damage them more. Before long "Republican" will be a shameful label and being associated with them would reduce your chances in elections. Maybe I worded it too harsh, but that's probably because I personally want to see the party collapse.
I want to see both parties collapse and actually have candidates judged by their credentials and experience relevant to running a country, not their favorite fucking color and/or how much they love Jesus Christ (Our Lord And Savior™)

When they get older and more conservative and the GOP starts focusing on them instead of their currently lucrative elderly market, you'll see a lot more millennials start signing up for the GOP. It's happened before; it'll happen again. Bernie is just a flash in the pan hyped up by politically naive millennials and internet American socialists. He'll get his ass handed to him in the primary and he'll either fall off the radar soon afterwards or he'll be a brief political celeb and people will use his quotes to ice burn those mean ol' Republicans on Facebook and Instagram.

From the mid-term election last year, the Republicans have their largest majority in the House of Representatives since 1928. And it's not just at the federal level; of the 36 governorships up for election last year, 24 went to Republicans.
But candidates are judged by their credentials? Why do you think they hold primaries?
To run the country objectively, not how the parties' agendas tell the public how it should be run.
Alot of republicans I know are dissapointed in the GOP, so they are moving to sanders, i genuinely hope he wins, hope anything but trump wins.

Plus, Dems and minorities never really show up to midterm elections sadly.

As a non-american who follows american politics whenever can, I think US needs Bernie Sanders as a president right now and every lucid person need to vote for him.
Why can't we have guys like Bernie here in the UK? for a more inherently left wing country we sure have terrible left wing politicians.

It's not wonder fuck all gets done over there when both parties have the capability to spend their entire term out of power doing nothing but creating smear campaigns. Politics over here might look like a bunch of schoolboys shouting during debates, but at least we don't have to deal with this kind of shit.
