I am looking for good classic anime movies to wacth that are just as epic as Akira
besides
Ghost in the Shell
Ninja Scroll
anything from Miyazaki
I like them to be Rated R (or at least PG-13)
OP HATES naurto
Anything from Miyazaki:

-Howl's Moving Castle

On that note:
- Spirited Away
- Ny neighbor Totoro
Both great movies in true Miyazaki style. Only someone with a heart of solid granite could not love those. Also check out Paprika (it's weirdness bordering psychedelic, but has great art style, great soundtrack, lovable characters and an interesting plot).

Here, Paprika trailer at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3734962457/

Don't worry, they are great films. If you are looking for an actiony film out of Miyazaki go for Princess Mononoke.
Is Castle in the Sky any good? It's one of his earlier works, and I haven't seen it yet.

He wrote the Akira manga and worked on the film as well. Steamboy is another one of his works.
The director of Paprika also did two earlier movies, Tokyo Godfathers and Perfect Blue. Haven't watched them myself yet, though I've heard they're awesome.

well, he did akira and steamboy and this other thing called like "dreams" i think, its a bunch of shorts that he wrote
name me one movie I should NOT or is evertrhing he done gold both guys
ummmmmmmm what?
Please don't type under intoxication.
Pretty much anything they touch becomes a masterpiece.
i think what hes trying to say is like
are there miyazaki movies to avoid?
to that i have to say, i dunno. ive only seen a few personally, but if the ones i have seen are any indication, theyre all pretty good. for miyazaki, start with princess mononoke, spirited away, or my neighbor totoro.
in other words he makes gold all the time got it
is there anything els besides these two guys made
Royal Space Force is pretty cool when you take a look at the mechanical and environment designs they used.
Watch Patlabor 2 if you like to listen to a director's ramblings on the role and status of Japan after the end of the Cold War and in the aftermath of the collapse of the Japanese bubble economy.
One important thing to note about Miyazaki's films however; They look like kids' movies at first glance.
They're not.

Yes, Satoshi Kon is another name you'll want to look at.
If you're going to watch some Miyazaki movies don't expect a bloody actiony movies like Akira. Well, Princess Mononoke is pretty actiony, but Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro are more family friendly fantasy movies. Don't let that steer you away though. They have a lot of heart put into them and they are very well done. His movies are the reason why I love animation so much. They look amazing. Just know what you're getting into.
yeah, think of miyazaki as like...japanese pixar
or, conversely, you could think of pixar as american miyazaki

I think Miyazaki is a big fan of Pixar. Remember in Spirited Away the lamp with the hand of the bottom that jumped around? Remind you of anything?
I thought I remembered some of the Pixar higher-ups saying one of their great inspirations is Miyazaki. I might just be making that up though.

Nevermind it might have been the other way around ^

they both inspire each other. like in toy story, one of the background toys looks like totoro, and miyazaki puts his little shoutouts in his movies too.

Well personally I think Nausicaa is an overrated one. It was a pretty generic anti-war/save the environment plot. The imagery was the most creative thing about it
