55 years and 28 movies later, the Japanese monster Godzilla is looking to make his return to big screens everywhere. Making his first appearance in 1954 (Gojira) Godzilla is a giant monster that lives in the sea that comes from the ocean to feed on mankind. Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively that Legendary Pictures is looking to do another major movie with the iconic horror monster (they are in early discussions), although there are NO details at this point other than this should be a reboot. In 1998, TriStar Pictures produced a remake set in New York City, directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Matthew Broderick. In recent interviews for 2012 Emmerich has said that he's not interested in sequels (even though all of his disaster movies are basically the same). More details as they come in.
now, Bloody Disgusting has been wrong before, but still, this is exciting news. it's not official Toho Cannon, but having a COMPETENT American film company (as in, not Dean Devlin (sp?) or Roland Emmerich) considering making a Godzilla movie fills me with glee. I mean, they did such good jobs with 300, The Dark Knight, and Watchmen that the fact that they might do a Godzilla film gives me much hope.
but again, they might be wrong. hopefully an official announcement will be made in the upcoming months.
The first American Godzilla movie was utter shit, they just can't do it.
I'm the one guy that liked the 2000 Godzilla.
Nice to meet you.

if they kept to the original vision of a giant, lumbering living force of nature instead of an oversized hermaphroditic velociraptor who was born preggers, that wouldn't have happened. you ever read the original script for the American Godzilla movie that was written in 1994? that was fucking awesome! Godzilla bursts from the ice of Antartica, makes his way to San Fransisco, fights a Giant Batlike Griffin, and wins. when I read the full script, I came. (I don't remember where it is, but someone's been making an online comic based off of it for years, I think he's either still making it or he stopped.)
No.
No.
you have a problem with every fucking thing in the universe. care to explain your objections?

We should all have a party.
Godzilla in the 1998 version just wasn't badass enough for me, cmon' a couple missiles killed that bitch like that.

Can I come?

Now I know where Mega shark vs Giant Octopus got it's awful story from.
It's not a hole...it's a footprint.
People has to realize, if godzilla won't ever be remade for the big screen as the old movies. Not enough people appreciate b-movies.
[sp]And I liked the 1998 version.[/sp]
The thing that made the least sense in Godzilla 2000 was that they completely disregarded scale in the movie. At one point Godzilla is the size of skyscrapers and at another point he can fit in the Manhattan subway system?

Maybe he had a shrink ray?

I don't think they're trying to make B-Movies. if you've seen any of the last few godzilla movies since 1985, they've been trying to make them actually good movies. technological and budget limitations are the only things that have kept them as B Movies. if they managed to make a Good-Looking Godzilla with modern-day technology it could help Godzilla transcend from B-Movie to Credible Blockbuster.
besides, not all Godzilla movies are cheesefests. a perfect example would be the original 1954 movie (sans-Raymond Burr, though the version with him was still good)..

yeah, that's the one they're referring to. don't know why, seeing as "2000 Godzilla" is actually Godzilla 2000, the Japanese reboot that they made BECAUSE the American version was so terrible in the eyes of many.

Cloverfield was the best adaption of Godzilla.
are they making the 2000 godzilla sequel or the japanese one
i'm also a fan from the 2000 one since i was a child c:
Cloverfield. :smug:

uh, whuh? man, I'm pretty sure if you posted that in a Godzilla fan board, they'd rip you to shreds.
granted, it's an excellent monster movie, but in no way will it ever be considered a Godzilla movie.

dunno, but I'm willing to bet it's a reboot.
I never really liked the American one because it literally took the "god" out of Godzilla.
The Cloverfield monster was an indestructible being on a rampage through a city and was really tall and smashed shit. It seemed pretty similar to me.

but it's not an adaption. Godzilla surely as fuck inspired it, but it wasn't an adaption. JJ Abrams said that he "wanted America to have it's own Godzilla", but that doesn't mean "I'm making a Godzilla movie". otherwise, Toho would've sued for copyright infringement.

Would you not then call it an American adaption of Godzilla if that is what it was inspired from?
You can still call it that without calling it Godzilla.

I, personally, would only call it an adaption if it had Godzilla directly in it. if Godzilla just inspired it, then to me it's just a, whatchucallit... spiritual successor.

I'll bring chips.
The American Godzilla sucked, but the JAPANESE "Godzilla 2000" that followed it was nice. I have a DVD-box with 6 remastered old Gojira movies and I've also seen many many more of 'em. I hope there'll be atleast one another Godzilla movie by Toho.
How about they make something original? I like that idea.
