Just over 8% of adults - around 2.7m people - took an illegal drug during the last year, according to the Crime Survey for England and Wales.
This compares with 11.1% in 1996.
But the report found 6% of young adults used nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, in the last year - the first time its use has been recorded.
Illicit drug-use has been largely in decline since 2003 and the figures for 2012/13 represent a 0.7% drop on the previous year.

It says this is the first time it's use has been recorded, can you not read or something?

We had to take these surveys my freshman year of highschool. I got my class to say they all smoke crack and shoot up to throw off the results a little.

These surveys are done in ways to account for inaccuracies such as that...
It says this is the first time it's use has been recorded, can you not read or something?
It would have been recorded earlier, if the use was more pronounced. Shit what the hell is reading comprehension I don't even-. You don't just decide to record the use of a drug if there is no drug user base.

Or maybe they just decided to focus more on harder/more common drugs and just decided to begin recording Nitrous use?
Hippy crack has been around for yearrrrs, how is it just gaining popularity over there?
it's not, it's been around forever.
it's not, it's been around forever.
That's why it strikes me as odd they just started recording it's use.
Do Skittles count?
That's why it strikes me as odd they just started recording it's use.
Yes I hear they're dedicating an entire wing of scotland yard for this great laughing gas epidemic
i hear someone injected an entire canister
and his neck swelled up so much it covered his mouth and he died
All the while pretty much every british person I know is a stoner :v:
this implies that people are just going to tell you they take illegal drugs
Most people don't give a shit and would happily tell a cop they did, as long as they had nothing on em
this implies that people are just going to tell you they take illegal drugs
Well, apparently they did in the survey in 1996, so I really don't see what the problem with the statistics should be.
And if it's anonymous, why not?
I imagine that people who takes illegal drugs would probably keep that information for themselves.
I wouldn't tell some researcher what i have taken.
Yay
Now every single political party can to point to this as evidence that the current drug policy "is working"
It also found that almost four out of five people thought cannabis was either "very" or "a bit" unsafe.
fuck you

cannabis is "a bit" unsafe, it's smoking (which isn't exactly kind on the lungs) and in children and teenagers it carries risks of causing mental disorders
it's not extremely dangerous by any means (better than alcohol or nicotine for sure) but ignoring the risks completely is childish
Yeah I agree its a bit unsafe, they should really divide that statistic between the people that said "very" and "a bit". Was just throwing a rage.

Cannabis is not unsafe to your lunges. Inhaling combusted cannabis has some minor effects on your lunges.

here we go
Although 3% of respondents thought that it was very safe to take cannabis, a higher proportion than for any of the other substances, around 8 in 10 respondents (79%) thought that taking cannabis was very (47%) or a bit (32%) unsafe.
