I hope they do a remake of Rome, Samurai/Japan doesn't really interest me.

A WW1 game would be interesting, it can work in those type of formations.

no it would be terrible
trenches would suck
Played every Total War game except Rome and Napoleon, love them all.
I come to this thread and find that my post is gone?
what the hell?

They could make you dig the trenches on the campaign map and set up supply lines and shit and it would be rad what are you talking about?
I hope that, since this is so far beyond Napoleon and Empire, you don't have to spend 50 fucking turns building up to line fire. That was bullshit in those games.

Uh WW1 wasn't just trench warfare only.
Total war isn't a war simulator. It's a battle simulator. ww1 would work just fine probably.
During ww1 they also used forts and castles, they attacked in groups and they engaged in melee. Pretty much everything you'd need for a total war game, but i think they did say they won't do it.

Trench Warfare is however very fitting for the style of Total War games.
cant wait for this
I'd prefer they revisited Rome with the Shogun engine and all the campaign changes before they moved onto any other era.
Rome really doesn't need a remake. It was the beginning of their use of 3D unit models and the new campaign map style, rather than dragging and dropping units on provinces as with original Shogun.
The upgrade would be mostly cosmetic.

I don't see how this is a problem.
^it would kind of be like medieval II, not much was added only improved and expanded

They've still done things such as improved trade routes, improved menus, naval battles, and they now have the ability to make blood splatter on your screen when you zoom in!
I never played any of the total war games before and was thinking of trying one
Which one should I play first?
The Industrial Revolution brought about changes in warfare which made the battlefield quite different from the days of close-order infantry + smoothbore musket volleys of the 18-early 19th centuries. I wonder if CA will properly implement them and not just make "Empire: Total War with Victorian units".

prior to shogun's release i read an interview with a TW developer and, to the question of a WW1 game, he replied something like "well, there are guys around the office who obsessively make ww1 tank models for days on end... i don't think we'll be able to hold them back forever"

Rome is the one most people start with and its pretty easy to get into. Medieval II is similar but they added a few new features and unit types. Those two are your best choices, its really a matter of aesthetic preference.

Yeah if you count the slaughter of horse cavalry units in the first few weeks and the the 100m the first tanks would go before throwing a tread.
