A Canadian couple is lucky to be alive after their truck was struck by lightning — while they were driving.
Shocking surveillance video captured the freak occurrence, Canada's CTV reported.
Al and Betty Perry were driving through Tofield, a rural town in central Alberta, when the bolt struck their gray pickup.
"It sounded like a sonic boom," Al Perry said.
Flames engulfed the truck. The Perrys said their airbags deployed, and the jolt destroyed the car's electrical system, locking the windows and doors.
The two tried breaking through the windows, but black smoke began to fill the truck, making it hard for them to breathe.
"How are we going to get out of this particular thing? This is a coffin," Al Perry told the TV station.

Wait, how did the doors get locked?
I thought it was just a pully handle thingy (Very technical term) that controlled the doors, are car doors electric these days?

the door locks might have fused in the lightning strike, rendering it difficult to open them without significant effort.

Well, how else would you lock and unlock them remotely?

Either they are stupid or modern cars don't have a physical latch to manually unlock the doors.
Being central Alberta we can equate they voted for the conservatives and we can conclude that yes, they are stupid.
Edited: could I bias that anymore? :v:

I think he's talking about the small lever that buries itself down into the door when you lock it and you can grab it to unlock the car manually. But, that looks like a newer truck, so that may not have those kind of locks.

Or they might have just panicked.

someone make a loop of this

If im not mistaken, some if not all modern cars have electrical door locks so people can lock and unlock them remotely, but they still have manual mechanical locks also on the inside just incase there is an electrical malfunction such as this.
Must have been a shocking sight for that car behind them

Some modern cars do not have manual locks. the 2013 Fusion has no way to lock the doors other than the button, remote key, or keypad on the outside.

Yeah, I have a 2011 Mustang and you can push the little knob into the door to lock it but there's no way to pull it back out to unlock without using the electronics.

Who the hell OK's this stuff? That's such a safety hazard.
The way the subject line is written it sounds like the lightning bolt was driving and crashed into another car.
Does anyone else see a small spark about 2 seconds after the truck was hit?

What the fuck did nobody see the problem with this when they designed it?
snop i cant read for shit
Looks like Zeus was not pleased with them
My physics teacher said it was impossible to be hurt if your car is struck by lightning because a car is basically a faraday cage
nope

They didn't get hurt by the lightning, though
I thought lightning bolts went for the tallest thing around? Why didn't it hit that telegraph pole?
What the fuck did nobody see the problem with this when they designed it?
Because even if the door is locked you can still open it from inside with the handle. Have you people never been in a car before?

Thunder's truck looking scorching I see.

Wow, that's some final destination shit.
Who the hell OK's this stuff? That's such a safety hazard.
I assume that it is an attempt to avoid theft, as it means you cannot just break the window and open the door from the inside.

My car doesn't have any pull of any type. There's nothing but a button on the center dash to lock/unlock. Also a Ford.

But if you pull inside door handle it probably unlocks the door and lets you out. At least my car does that.
