A 13-YEAR-OLD American boy became the youngest climber to reach the top of Mount Everest today, breaking the former record as part of his quest to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents. A spokesman for Jordan Romero says the boy's team called him by satellite phone from the summit of the world's highest mountain, 29,035 feet (8850 metres) above sea level. "Their dreams have now come true. Everyone sounded unbelievably happy," a statement on Jordan's blog said today. The teenager with long curly hair - who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa when he was 10 years old - says he was inspired by a painting in his school hallway of the seven continents' highest summits. "Every step I take is finally toward the biggest goal of my life, to stand on top of the world," Jordan said on his blog earlier. The former record for the youngest climber to scale Everest had been held by Temba Tsheri of Nepal. He reached the peak at age 16. "I'm just very proud of him," Jordan's mother told The Associated Press by telephone just before he reached the peak, as she watched his progress on a live GPS tracker online. When asked what she would say to him once he reached the summit, she started crying. "I can't really say that. It's just emotional." Jordan, from Big Bear, California, was climbing Everest with his father, his father's girlfriend and three Sherpa guides. He left for the peak from the base camp on the Chinese side. Them kids, they keep achieving things and making babies at earlier ages every generation.
His parents are rich.
Now he should parachute off it, and become the world's first/youngest person (at least that I know of) to ever do that, too.
Doesn't it cost like $10,000 to climb it?
Wow, that's a great achievement. I envy him; he's seen the view from the highest place on Earth.
:monocle:

That's still a hell of a view.
Not much of a view? I'm missing something here if you think that isn't much of a view.
You don't consider that a view? That's amazing.
well now i just feel inadequate and unaccomplished
not much of a view unless you like clouds
It is a view though. You're above the fucking clouds.
Jessica Watson Fail
Doesn't it cost like $10,000 to climb it?
$100,000 or more
not much of a view unless you like clouds
Hahaha... That one HELL of a view. That's the height commercial jets fly at.
I heard about this on NPR, this guy is kick ass!
He looks like a right ponce. The kind of kid that brags about all his sailing awards.
k if i were this kids age and exposed to the type of shit he was i'd be the same as him
looks like a girl lol
First Jessica Watson sailing round the world and now this. It's like the newest generation wants to make us look as shit as possible.
As girly as he looks, that does take a lot of balls. Fair play.
1/10 people die climbing Everest. Anyone else think 13 is a little young for that? He's below the age of consent, and even too young to get a job in a lot of places, but apparently he can risk his life climbing a mountain.
k if i were this kids age and exposed to the type of shit he was i'd be the same as him
So what you're saying is if you were this kid... you would be this kid? You should be a detective.
The rest of his life will be a crushing disappointment now.

Mount everest is quite high
When your dad is a rich cunt, anything can be safe as long as he pays enough.
Read the book Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. It's a firsthand story of a big disaster on Mt. Everest that killed a dozen or so people, most of them rich tourists. Great read.
I like how everyone is bitching that the kid's family must be rich and if they had a family that rich they'd do that in a second. First off, he's 13 and apparently in good enough shape to climb a mountain that has killed people double and triple his age. Climbed Kilimanjaro at 10 for fuck's sake. Money doesn't buy physical prowess or personal courage, that kid has balls and that is indisputable.
never knew helicopters could go this high
