Nice clearly explained and well made animation.

In this analogy, Oliver represented teachers salary, road maintenance, Law enforcement salary, the NASA budget, the Military budget and much much more.
Seeing as how George is reaping the benefits of all those perks he should contribute. If he doesn't it is OK to force him.
If he doesn't like it he should go some place they don't enforce taxes well. IE third world countries.
Taxes are good, see them as contribution.
Taxation is not done with threats of violence, the fuck is wrong with this video?

I think they mean incarceration.
We need taxes because they, in a sense, buy civilization. Stateless society is another word for pie in the sky anarchy. Governments primarily organize entire nations and that costs money. Think roads, the post office, the quality of the food you eat and the air you breathe. These are upheld because of the taxes we pay. Without taxes, there would be no NASA and that American flag on the moon wouldn't be there today.

But then again, paying taxes for services that helps society is a good thing and I don't see why people are so afraid of taxes.
Without them you pay for more expensive services, like health insurance and school tuition fees.

It's because they don't know how that feels. What they do know is how it feels to have 42% tax deduction(Dutch percentage).
They only see subsidized initiatives that they don't use
if taxation is theft why don't you go to one of those great countries that are doing so well without taxes
such as
It's an interesting concept on a moral level, but it becomes a lot more confusing when you try and think of a way to sustain a country/society without any form of taxes

Every other species on the planet.
Every other species on the planet.
Uh except they aren't nearly on the same level as intelligence as us so
Every other species on the planet.
99.9% of all species that has ever lived on planet Earth are all extinct
as far as we know none of them had taxes
dinosaurs didn't have taxes that's why they became extinct!!!
There is a few problems with this. Taxes don't just help people who are down on their luck they help everyone including the tax payer. The free rider system and the fact that most people try to pay as little tax as possible show why this wouldn't work. Also the video seemed to have gotten democratic republics and pure democracy mixed up.
guys clearly the government can just print more money if they need it and they only collect taxes to steal from us!
:downs:
You can't get rid of taxes, you can only change their name and when you pay them. If tax money doesn't go to taxes they'll go to fees, fees for everything that money wasn't going to with taxes in place, except they were, you were just paying for them at a different time. Taxes aren't good, nor are they bad, it's one of two choices, and it's an incredibly stupid thing to hate the government for.
I find it a bit worrying how this video is obviously targeted at kids, The cartoons, the incredibly basic language used to explain it. "Agents with GUNS will break into his house take george away". It's similar to how kids are brainwashed to believe in certain things like the bogyman. Show this to a kid and they may grow up thinking this. Taxes are there to help everyone, and especially people who are less able to help themselves, like the old or sick or very young. By this definition, a country that takes more in tax is a better country because its helping others more, which is what humans should strive to do, like social healthcare. It staggers me to think people WOULDN'T want to help others.
which one of you sons of bitches posted my post as a comment on the video
i'll malice you with a shoehorn
Voluntary taxes simply do not work, it would simply intensify the free rider problem, and state wealth which in the end returns back down to you in the form of greater quality of life is abruptly cut and prone to random surges and drops in collection rates, thus, the budget would become chaotic and unpredictable and the state would lack money when it needs it. I raise you one simple example of why a service that runs on donations or volunteer payments does not work, Wikipedia. Wikipedia is one of the most visited webpages in the world and runs entirely on donation money. They have been on the verge of going down under for 5 years straight and it shows absolutely no tendency to reverse that behavior. The only way they can manage to collect enough funds is to aggressively campaign on every page of the site to raise awareness.
And that's just on a small scale, people just don't have any idea of how much money you need to run any nation.
absolutely terrible video, and what an incredibly naive portrayal of taxation
it's like a child wrote this shit
is it just me or does it look like that cloud is wearing blackface

this video is culturally insensitive on top of being insulting to intellectuals
