• Who and what you love / hate about Metalcore

I've always been listening to it, but after listening to 3 Metalcore bands after one another, I thought I would make this thread. Basically just post some Metalcore bands you like, hate and/or characteristics of the music you like/dislike. > My favourite Metalcore bands at the moment would have to be: > Asking Alexandria > Bullet for My Valentine (I love all their stuff but I am mainly talking about The Poison, as that is Metalcore) > Atreyu (Again, mostly old stuff) > The Devil Wears Prada I listen to more but these deserve a high mention. > What I love about Metalcore: > Too much to mention, but its just the crossover of metal and hardcore that gets me. > What I hate about Metalcore: > Some songs have no structure (Sometimes have a catchy chorus played once?) > EXCESSIVE chugging of low open chords > Whiney voices > ALWAYS singing about murdering woman (It can't be THAT fun?) > Too much integration of happy techno stuff if that makes sense Try not to argue on what is/isn't metalcore too much, as most people regard different stuff and different genres.
Hate: Modern metalcore is a fucking abomination and disaster of REAL metallic hardcore Love: Real metallic hardcore is fucking awesome
That stuff is pretty good, hard to believe that its the same genre though. I think your stuff uses more traditional harcore and metal, its great. Love the second song.
The only new "metalcore" bands I listen to are Atreyu and Chimaira, I don't know why I like Atreyu but Chimaira are just generally pretty kickass. I fucking hate BFMV. They're just metal for the lowest common denominator, made to be accessible and soulless And as Sickjits said, some of the original metalcore bands are fucking mighty
I hate most of it because I just don't like the sound of it. I like some hardcore punk groups and they both end in "core" so I guess that's sort of similar I think.
Converge shits all over every other metalcore band.
Aren't they "mathcore" though? They're not really metalcore in my eyes, just fucking awesome.
And as far as melodic/mainstream metalcore goes, Darkest Hour is miles above the rest IMO.
Darkest Hour is pretty good, but I've never really given them the attention they deserve. I used to be big into metalcore, but now I only have 4 or 5 metalcore bands I can stand. Corpus Christi old Lamb of God Converge Devildriver
Only modern metalcore that is good is All That Remains and Shadows Fall. Devil Driver is pretty good too. List of terrible pop-metal bands that should be called pop metal or metalcore like hair metal was in the 80s but for god knows why aren't: BFMV A7X Devil Wears Prada (and every other shitty christian metal band) Killswitch Engage [editline]03:28PM[/editline]
The stuff you hate is EXACTLY what Devil Wears Prada is, and BFMV borderlines it. God damn their new album is literally 60% ballads with no originality. You like a crossover of metal and REAL hardcore? That's what STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES did in 1985/86 [editline]03:30PM[/editline]
If metalcore = hardcore punk with metal influences, shoudn't old metalcore belong to the same genre as old thrash metal?
Lamb Of God Parkway Drive War of Ages some, and only some trivium, cause he usually screams like he's shitting a brick out sideways August Burns Red Bury Your Dead has drifted between Metalcore and Hardcore for a while All That Remains (even before GH made them popular) Swashbuckle ( :v: ) Hate: Atreyu, Attack Attack, TDWP, ADTR, For Today(uninventive breakdowns, annoying sweeping)and various other i forgot the name to.
If metalcore = hardcore punk with metal influences, shoudn't old metalcore belong to the same genre as old thrash metal?
It used to be. I'm really wish people would call it what is really is now (pop metal).
I like HORSE The Band, Protest The Hero, Between The Buried And Me, Enter Shikari, and some other stuff I haven't listened to in a while
It used to be. I'm really wish people would call it what is really is now (pop metal).
So why don't we just call all the good, old metalcore thrash metal instead, and we avoid a lot of arguments?
Because if you do that, people will start calling the mainstream pop metal bands thrash and it will cause more problems :v:
I like HORSE The Band
This.
I like HORSE The Band, Protest The Hero, Between The Buried And Me, Enter Shikari
This guy is reading my mind. I also like Parkway Drive a lot, went to see them last week. I also listen to a very limited amount of TDWP, all their songs sound the same. I'm not sure what A Day To Remember and Four Year Strong are, but I like them a lot. I'd like to increase my metalcore library, in my music collection metalcore is definitely a genre I listen to a lot so I need to check out some more bands.
Because if you do that, people will start calling the mainstream pop metal bands thrash and it will cause more problems :v:
Oh god What a catastrophe I don't even dare think about it Though on second thought, I doubt that would ever happen, since the people who discuss shitty metalcore probably haven't even heard Integrity :v:
I'm not sure what A Day To Remember and Four Year Strong are, but I like them a lot.
Pop-punk with breakdowns.

You're just an ignorant punk who can't respect others' beliefs, and just because a band is Christian, it's all of a sudden a bad band, to you.
I can respect other people's beliefs but not when they're being shoved down my throat or when they antagonize anyone with different beliefs. And those bands being "better" or "more talented" is purely subjective. I'll agree that August Burns Red is a sick band but a lot of Christian bands build their careers on ripping off Botch, The Devil Wears Prada, or 7 Angels 7 Plagues. [editline]08:21PM[/editline] Also, I'm aware you weren't talking to me.
Stupid lyrics Too many breakdowns.

Where they're coming from musically is automatically stupid as well. Christian musicians = Great! Christian Rock Bands = Terrible! Underoath has NO musical talent, neither does August Burns Red. I'd like to see either of those bands showing ANY virtuosity. They simply don't have any. These are the type of guys that grew up playing Korn songs.

I didn't even know they were Christian until I saw that under their themes, and then reinterpreted their lyrics. :colbert: It's hard to pick one song to represent them accurately, but I'll use Modern Truth as an example. (NOTE: I just uploaded the video, so it'll take a while before you can listen)
With all my power, I fight the lies that comes to me, in dark disguise Chills that trembles down my spine Are truth something we have left behind The news are preaching infected truths what we can gain and what we should lose Foundation of what we have built is now a sign of regret and guilt Modern truth is a glimpse of doom that will leave us in an empty room there they who crave the key will mock the people called you and me Take my pride leave me to bleed but don't kill my mind it's all that I need to separate between lies and fake Don't give me more than I can take Call me a beast call me a liar but you are the one that always require Brand new start in wrong directions Hear my words and swallow my affection Modern truth is a glimpse of doom that will leave us in an empty room there they who crave the key will mock the people called you and me All my friends vanished no more hope no time to sleep when will this end? Modern truth is a glimpse of doom that will leave us in an empty room there they who crave the key will mock the people called you and me
For song choices, I was considering between this song and "Deserted Soul," and "In the End." Decided on this just because its chorus is fucking bad-ass.
Not metalcore, but some of the most talented musicians I have ever met primarily played Gospel music, which is Christian as fuck
No one mentioned throwdown yet? Probably the only thing I could describe as metal core that I listen to.
.... > Some songs have no structure (Sometimes have a catchy chorus played once?) ....
Songs with no standard structure are awesome if done right. Probably 50% of the artists I listen don't use standard structure. Is Progressive the term for "no-specific-structure" by the way? Edit: Just read about it, it's part of Progressive music.
Progressive more means that they're sort of pioneering the genre as they go, I think.
It has two meanings now, but yeah, that is a big part of actual "Prog" music. [editline]03:25PM[/editline]
Not metalcore, but some of the most talented musicians I have ever met primarily played Gospel music, which is Christian as fuck
Yeah, there is a big difference between christian rock bands and people that play gospel music.
