I made this a while back. Take in count that the poorly spelled words where there because I was writing as a slave who did not know how to write or read. Try to mind the weird lining going downwards, I had to make this in "Google Docs" due to our files not saving properly.
U.S HISTORY FINAL EXAM August 29th, 1831 My name is Andre Williams; I was born on April 9th 1819, I have a wife and one child. My wives name is Laura Williams, and my sons name is Andre Williams. Every boy, born on his farm is named after him. I work on slave farm in South, Austin Texas. My slave masta’ is named Joshua Williams; he beats us senselessly if we do not work. On August 21st 1831, word had spread about a rebellion that had begun in Virginia by a man named Nat Turner; if he I could meet that man I would shake his hand oh so gratefully. This man is an inspiration to all us slaves across the nation, August 30th, 1831 On August 22nd 1831, word had spread again that the rebellion had ended. Nat Turner was on the run, and he isn’t one to be caught so easily. Two months later Nat Turner was found, they brought all the slaves who rebelled to be hung and killed; they made families of the slaves watch them get hung. Some were still escaping, others were caught. All I knew was that we had to obey our masta’s until slavery was abolished. Across the state, one by one, our slave masta’s were forced to let us be free, some didn’t want to leave because they were scared of not finding food, but others were pleased, and left without a care in the word, some with their families, others without. I thank President Lincoln for that. January 23rd, 1863 I left with my family to start a new life so my son may live an s slave free world; I changed his name to Jeremiah Williams. We now live in Tampa, Florida with one other family. My son met their daughter and he’s havin’ a pleasant time. He may bring future generations to come, may god bless him, and our country. April 9th, 1865 There has been talk amongst our town of a “Civil War” breaking out with the North and the South, some of the men in our town had left to fight in the war, I however stayed with my family, I have no reason to fight for something so absurd, I hope that this fight doesn’t last long, for I do not want my son seeing this war. June 22nd, 1865 The wars over, and the Union won, I’ m glad this war is over, for my son can finally grow up with a normal life without war or poverty. Some men didn’t come back, though they shouldn’t of left in the first place, I still bless their families, and bare the same feeling of their loss. Some men have come back very ill of a disease called cholera; I fear that my family may become ill of this disease. I have not been affected by this war, but other families have. Our freedom has been strengthened by this battle and President Lincoln knows how to show great leadership. God bless him. September 19th, 1865 I fear that I have not long; doctors say I have cholera, a disease I received from contaminated food an’ water. They say I have had it for a while, there’s nothing they can do to help me, and I hope my family lives a healthier life than I. September 21st, 1865 As I lay here in my death bed, my family by my side, I feel very weak and tired, I know that my time has come, and that god has chosen this path for me. He knows what he’s doing, for he has a plan for my family and I, I hope my family finds this, and I hope they know I will always take care of them, and watch over them from the heavens. God bless us all.
