Valve has opted to cancel plans for cross platform online multiplayer for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in order to update the game more frequently. Speaking to Joystiq, Valve’s Chet Faliszek explained that cross-platform play was removed due to what Valve has learned from the beta . Faliszek stated, “the beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC, to do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn’t hamstring the other. So for that, we have removed the idea of cross-platform play – essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them.” Valve has yet to pin down a specific release date, but the company revealed that the downloadable title will release this Summer on PC/Mac, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Makes sense Here's a link to the survey to win a beta key http://mp1st.com/2012/03/05/counter-strike-global-offensive-no-longer-supports-cross-platform-play-releases-this-summer/
Goddamit.
I'm ok with this. It's not like it's a resource demanding game anyway.
"essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them.” More like just PC but cool. I don't get why they don't include a special mode for it or something though - it's a feature I'm sure a lot of people would use with their console friends.
I personally would prefer having cross platform though
i'm guessing the reason they didn't bother is because when they want to update something on the PC it's quick and on their own platform, while on the consoles it has to go through that long process in Live or PSN which could delay the update for a long while, basically making the cross-play difficult to even work with.
It would've being unfair anyway , aiming is so much easier using a mouse .
Well shit looks like ill be stuck with a ps3 version that wont transfer onto my steam account.
Saw this coming, although would've made an excellent feature, its just too good to be true.
This is why I <3 Valve I'd rather the game be updated and improved upon frequently than waiting for it and having cross-platform play.
That's kind of a let down, oh well.
PC players would have annihilated most controller users. No console elitism, it's just a simple fact that reaction speeds are much faster and more precise when using a mouse.

Thats at least how I think it would have worked.
people on Halo score instant headshots without even using the scope so i don't think counter-strike is the game where that would matter.
Although Valve games on consoles have a really awkward feeling when using the thumbsticks, like aiming is especially slippery, it's relatively hard to explain. [sp]Or it's just most likely me being a faggot[/sp]
people on Halo score instant headshots without even using the scope so i don't think counter-strike is the game where that would matter.
Some might, but for every good xbox player there are like 100 PC players. Its simpler for people to learn to be good on a PC than on an Xbox.
people on Halo score instant headshots without even using the scope so i don't think counter-strike is the game where that would matter.
players in halo get a lot of help from the game to focus on enemies. when your crosshair is near an enemy the sensitivity slows down a good amount, and it even follows the enemy slightly as it moves. not every pc player has that.
the sniper-rifle's auto-aim is extremely minimal to compensate for lag.
oh I was thinking about the dmr. sniper definitely does have less help.
But I want to point and laugh at console players with their lack of aim and control.

PS3 users can just use a mouse and keyboard.
Just because they can use a mouse and keyboard doesn't mean they will, many might not even know they have the option or be willing to spend the money for something they believe they'll only use on a single game .They'll try playing with the controller and end up getting annihilated and then quit the game out of frustration, which is bad business obviously. Even if you have a few amazing players with controllers, the average player won't do so well.

If it didn't, then there would still be big differences.
Aw, but I wanted to run over all the console playing peasants with my mouse and keyboard. :C

To everyone that says console controls suck or w/e: If you play CS:GO cross-platform, you will be matched with people of your skill range. That means that if you get someone on the other team that is playing on the PS3, then that means they're as good as you and you probably suck. I hope they will add something special that will include cross-platform play. I have a lot of friends that are console only gamers and it'd be nice if I could play with them, but on the PC like in Portal 2.
But we'll be able to speak to them on steam for ps3 .. right?

This is a terrible post, you need to stop. It's a pretty commonly known concept that it's easier to aim and navigate with a mouse and keyboard than with a controller by a substantial amount.
