Anderson Cooper shut down a Sun News contributor who asked to have a picture taken with the news anchor while reporting from a fatal shooting in Ottawa.
[...]
"Have a little respect," Cooper told him, declining.
Apparently, that didn't sit well with Gene who persisted.
"No, I will not take a photo with you on a day where someone was killed," Cooper shot back. "It seems wildly inappropriate."
.@vandongene I can't believe any station employs you, and if you want to be a journalist, learn how to behave when covering a story
Vandon Gene is no longer employed by Sun News.

The reporter did a good job of out, so he got what he deserved.
TBH why did Anderson Cooper have to fly out there?
Do we have a source? I want to see the context in which the question was posed and what he actually asked.
Oops, forgot to paste the link. Added a couple other sources too.
(sorry for HP, it was the easiest one to cut stuff out from and have it still make sense)
he apologized not once, but twice for what he did. At least he did so but it was probably backpedaling to avoid further disgrace.
TBH why did Anderson Cooper have to fly out there?
because he's a reporter, reporting on news

People seem to not like it, I dunno.
At least Sun fired him for being a douche.

I think it's more to do with Huffington heavily sensationalizing a fair bit of the stuff it posts.
Anderson Cooper is a solid guy, good on him.

Can't be easy to be in this industry and remain so ethical at the same time, really respect him as a journalist
Sounds to me like Cooper is the douche in this incident.
Someone being killed is completely unrelated to taking a picture with one of your fans.
If you don't feel like taking a picture, come out and say it. Don't beat around the bush and throw out excuses.

There's a time and a place for everything, and a place where someone was shot and killed isn't one of them.

Do you think it would be okay if a reporter took a good ol happy fan selfie with someone while they were on the site of the Sandy Hook shooting that happened only days (or perhaps hours) ago?
I'm sure he would have been fine with a picture at any other time, but here, it is wildly inappropriate and disrespectful.

Not to mention it was supposedly another reporter asking for it. He has better things he could be doing than harassing Anderson Cooper, like his fucking job.
