Holy shit, the cars. The beginning feels like a chase sequence.
Wow, what a beautiful piece of film.
Was this just an extended take for a movie or something?
[editline]14th June 2013[/editline]
Also laughing at all these people in the youtube comments "I WUS BORN IN THe WRONG GENERATION"
Those hills are insane man.
is this footage from the new LA noire?
1:55 Zelda Wii U confirmed 1940's theme.
MMmm look at dat smog towards the end.
There is a man that waves to the camera a 3:42. I wonder where he is now... If he were in his 20s during the shoot, it is feasible that he is still alive.
Wow what happened to the world man.
It's hard for me to visualize black and white videos in vivid color and what it would look like if I were standing there or in their shoes. It's like I imagine everyone lived in crappy black and white video.
Because of the reason above, I always assumed (subconsciously) that D-Day was performed on a gloomy cloudy day and not a bit of color was to be seen anywhere
Funny what color does (or lack thereof) to you

I'm playing both together, very cool video.
Seeing people's reaction, in both videos, is amazing; I appreciate the people who recorded these, who knows what it cost then compared to now.
Rent a car! $2.50 a day!
In 70 years time people are going to look at 2013 LA on google street view and think "wow I wish I could have been there".
"Born in the wrong generation" Comments aside, it -would- be awesome to travel back in time and experience the different lifestyles and shit back then, it's almost like another world.

Most of us would hardly last 10 minutes when we realise there's no internet.

I'd just invent the internet, then I'd be rollin' in 40's dosh
They had Full-HD cameras in 1940????
I want someone to color this
It was probably a take for when movies put pretend backgrounds in static cars on set.
Or I don't know what I'm talking about.

Actually this makes a whole lot of sense. It's the only reason I can think of why they pointed the camera backwards instead of forwards.
I find it kinda strange to think that they're exactly the same kind of humans living today.

What did you expect them to have three arms or something?
They had Full-HD cameras in 1940????
film doesn't work the same as digital media
HD only makes a difference with digital media, where it uses pixels instead of essentially staining the light rays onto a piece of plastic. So when you think about it, depending on the make of the camera, all films back then were HD, just black and white and grainy because film gathers dust.
What did you expect them to have three arms or something?
No, but being taught how different it was back in those days makes you forget how similar we really are.

One second before that there's a guy on a truck who is also waving.

Both were taken in the early 1940s.

Assuming he is in his 20s there is a good chance he might have been sent off to fight Tojo or Hitler (Or just Kim Il-sung for that matter) and the likelihood of him being alive is much lower.

It's so different seeing it in color. I want whatever camera he used.
It's pretty cool recognising places in the video that are also in LA Noire.
