iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttt'sssssssssssssssssss time UFC hype train It's that time once again where many gentlemen enter the octagon and only one man leaves the octagon. Then another man leaves the octagon, followed by many other men, never a mis-communication. Without further adieu, let's see what fights we can watch before the main event (protip: it's a lot). Facebook Prelims * Lightweight bout: Kurt Pellegrino vs. Gleison Tibau * Welterweight bout: Ricardo Almeida vs. Mike Pyle Spike TV Prelims * Lightweight bout: Edson Barboza vs. Anthony Njokuani * Light Heavyweight bout: Eliot Marshall vs. Luiz Cane The Main Card * Heavyweight bout: Mirko Filipović vs. Brendan Schaub * Middleweight bout: Nate Marquardt vs. Dan Miller * Lightweight bout: Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus * Bantamweight bout: Urijah Faber vs. Eddie Wineland * Light Heavyweight Championship bout: Maurício Rua (c) vs. United States Jon Jones Quite a night of fights. So what do we look forward for? Well, we don't look forward to cringing harder than we have ever cringed before while watching Mirko refuse to kick anyone. It is evident that the UFC loves short changing Jim Miller; I mean, Shalorus, really? Hopefully Nate does something good, but Dan Miller has all the tools to make Nate fall back another bracket in the middleweight ladder. It is also incredible at how much of an underdog Eddie Wineland is, I may even bet some dinero on him. And of course, Shogun vs Jones. Will "ow my knee" Shogun show up? After all, this is his umpteenth knee surgery in the past few years and he hasn't fought in just under a year. My picks- Pellegrino Pyle Barboza Marshall Cro-Cop (I know this is probably a bad choice, but he looks very good in some of his latest training videos, best shape he has been in a while) D. Miller J. Miller Wineland (again, probably a bad choice, but in my opinion, he has all the tools available to give Faber a rough night) Jones (now I know what you're saying, but Shogun is coming off of another knee surgery and hasn't fought in 10 months. Jones has a massive reach advantage and if he fails at the standup with Shogun, he can easily keep it on the ground) Well, there are my misguided and wrong picks. What are yours? Which Shogun do you think will show up? Will UFC start advertising Strikeforce events during the PPV?! Who knows!
Shogun will win and it won't even be close. I've been waiting for this for a long time, Jones will get raped and yet another product of the UFC hype machine will fade into the blackness. I don't really care for anything other than the main event on this card, but I will watch Cro Cop vs Schaub just for old times sake, but seriously don't expect cro cop to bring anything entertaining. If the videos circa Mir are anything to go by, his heart isn't really in fighting anymore and he's pretty much admitted to just taking fights for money or as favors to the UFC. I would love to see even just a flash of old cro cop as we did in the Barry fight, but I don't think it will happen.
Mmm, I'm not sure. I don't exactly believe the massive hype around Jones either, but Bader is a good fighter and Jones worked him. I think it honestly comes down to how Shogun is after coming off from knee surgery / 10 month break. I'd love to see Shogun win it though, he has been my favourite fighter for a very long time. Even if Jones loses though, I don't see how you could say he'll fade. The kid is like 23 or something, he has a bright career ahead of him.
Make of it what you will, all I'm saying is the UFC hype machine is terrible, they get everyone jawboning about supposed up and comers who, under close scrutiny, done nothing to generate such revere, and when they get fed to the wolves, they fade into mild obscurity. That and take it with a grain of salt, as I just generally don't like Jones. He's already drawing comparisons of himself to Anderson Silva, it's like come on dude, you can't be fucking serious.
he is also signing autographs as "Champ of 2011, Jon Jones", blegh.
I'm pretty sure Uncle Dana said they will start advertising Strikeforce on this show. Fuck Jon Jones. That's the only fight that I care who wins. I'd like to see Cro Cop win too though just so he can (finally) end it on a high note.
I want Jon Jones to win.
Nice kick by Barboza, should have capitalized on it though...close fight but I thought he lost.
Cro-Cop was winning that fight as well :smith:
You guys thought Jon Jones wouldn't survive? Bullshit, he ran through Shogun like it was nothing. Knew he would come out on top.
Jones is just so big. You could see Shogun was doing some smarter things and had the better technique but Jones' physique was just too much
Shogun's conditioning was shit too, Jones hit him really good in the body a few times which must have slowed him down. Also glad that Faber won. Fun fact, he wrestled at UC Davis and I just went there today and now the wrestling program is cancelled, kinda sad.
