An Afghan bomb disposal expert defused a suicide bomber's explosive vest as he was still wearing it ahead of an attempted attack in the province of Jalalabad.
Images show how Afghan security forces captured the would-be bomber and hog-tied him to prevent him detonating the device. The bomb squad was then called in to disarm him, the expert taking his life in his hands as he approached the man armed with nothing but a wire cutter.
I have mad respect for any EOD guy, that is some intense shit.
Counter Terrorists win.
That's badass
Reminds me of The Hurtlocker, except the suicide bomber here wanted to purposely kill himself while in the movie he was forced into it and couldn't be saved.
That's got to be quite the odd experience, being so close to a man who was just about, and still would if he could, detonate a bomb that would destroy himself, and you.
You would think a suicide bomber would be kill on sight. Instead they tie him up and difuse the bomb.
Alot of respect for the Afghan security forces for that.

It's entirely possible that he has a dead man's switch.
It's entirely possible that he has a dead man's switch.
how do you hogtie someone with a dead man's switch without him detonating it
how do you hogtie someone with a dead man's switch without him detonating it
He said that i'ts possible, not that he had it.
The look on the bomber's face.
Man, war sucks
He said that i'ts possible, not that he had it.
because its not possible
I'd say the guys that hogtied the bomber were in more danger than the EOD tech. By the time the bomb badass got there the bomber was more or less already neutralized and, to him, it was no different than disarming any other bomb. But the first responders that had to somehow subdue the guy without him detonating?
Mad props to all involved. Heh.
In a country like that, I'd have kicked the shit out of him after disarming it, making sure to demean him for his poor choice of 'fighting-style'
"Cowardly bitch!"

Too bad its a cultural thing where some people see it as bringing glory upon one-self while the west just sees it as a silly thing to do

don't you think it's also a tad cowardly to kick the shit out of a guy who's tied up
don't you think it's also a tad cowardly to kick the shit out of a guy who's tied up
The fuck?
The man walks up to you with a suicide vest to blow you and everyone else away. He is subdued and you're calling ME a coward for beating him? He can at least cover his face and assume the fetal position.
Go ahead and tell me how i'm going to defend myself against a suicide bomber? Go ahead.

You clearly do not understand Middle-Eastern culture. Most Middle-Easterners DO NOT justify or support suicide bombing. It is only a 'small' fanatical group who brainwash unwitting and oblivious people who are given a poor lease on life and looking for a better use for their life than living in a Desert while some first world country fucks yours up.

I don't think this is true at all.
Eastern culture is vastly different to its Western counterpart, such cultures often put entirely different meaning to death. They have different ways of dealing with death, and have different values when it comes to death. Dying for a cause most of those around you believe in is considered noble if not heroic, since you sacrificed yourself in the most sincere and wholehearted way possible.
This does not mean they are savages or barbarians for placing lesser importance on death than us Westerners, this simply means that they are brought up in a different environment under different values. Islam also plays a significant role in reinforcing this differing system of values.
Defusing a man.

And I think you have an over-generalized view that plagues most Westerners.
I have been to the Middle East (Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iran (back before all the hullabaloo) and NEVER did I meet someone who agreed that strapping yourself with explosives to blow up a bunch of civilians (and typically militant persons, as well) was noble. It is seen as a low-tactic.
If you want to sacrifice yourself for the greater good, take a chime from the Chinese and Japanese stretching as far back as the 7th Century. Bonzai charges were a means to overpower the enemy, and if anything else; to sacrifice yourself for the greater good and to send a message.
Even the Kamakazi pilots of WW2 I can understand. But in today's world... It is too easy to pack an explosive, strap it to some poor misguided fool, and use it to destroy your enemies.
From what I found, most middle-easterners (and i use that term to Generalize) feel the same way. It is one thing to sacrifice your life for a greater cause and to convey a deep and affecting message. It is another thing to sloppily attempt to destroy your enemy by heedlessly throwing your life out the door with the push of a button. There is no tactic, there is no thought. It is just 'Jihad' without the duty that should come with it.
It doesn't send a message, it only causes destruction.
Edit:
Also, suicide bombing is not meant to take out the enemy. It is meant to cause chaos and destruction on a scale as large as possible.
Am I the only one who thinks this must've been really embarrassing for the bomber?
Am I the only one that noticed province of Jalalabad?
Jalalabad
I just want to know how the hell they managed to catch and tie him up in the first place, you'd think he would've just blown himself up when they tried to grab him.
Jesus Christ, your heart would be jumping out of your throat.

Some suicide bombers were forced to put on vests and shit, though.
What an awful way to go. The Hurt Locker comes to mind right away.

Sounds like the chorus to an awful rap song.

What would the point of you unleashing your anger by beating the shit out of him be?
Nothing but a wire cutter, huh. Someone has seen the hurt locker.

No, suicide bombing is not smiled upon in their culture, but sacrifice for a cause is.
