The vaccination issue has returned to the forefront in recent weeks, with a spike in measles cases in Toronto and some parts of the United States. During a news conference in Vancouver on Tuesday, Rona Ambrose was asked for her thoughts on the movement that blames vaccines for a number of health issues.
Is this anti-vaccination movement something new? As in, has it ever been this big before?
Is this anti-vaccination movement something new? As in, has it ever been this big before?
Apparently not, when I was a child there were parents not-vaccing with the MMR jab because they thought it gave their child autism and that was almost 12 years ago I think.
Is this anti-vaccination movement something new? As in, has it ever been this big before?
It'll shrink (along with a massive amount of the population) soon enough. It just hasn't reached critical mass yet. (the non-vaccinated will be the perfect mutation ground)
I don't know about the Toronto District School board but Peel District School board (Mississauga, Brampton, and Oakville(?)) prohibits children that haven't been vaccinated to enter schools during an outbreak (of any kind). In-fact if a parent chooses not to have their child vaccinated they would need to have a lawyer present to sign documents stating that they understand the implications and the barring of the child from school during an outbreak. I know this because I tried to get myself out of getting another Tetanus shot. The reason behind it is that I had already gotten it; and they would give me another shot anyways at the hospital if I were to cut myself with a blade/ something rusty. Either way I decided not to go through with all that and got the shot (was free so w/e). [editline]10th February 2015[/editline] Never mind this is for all of Ontario:
Q. What diseases do children and adolescents need to be immunized against to attend school in Ontario? A. Children and adolescents attending primary or secondary school in Ontario must have proof of immunization against the following diseases: Diphtheria Tetanus Polio Measles Mumps Rubella Meningococcal Disease - NEW requirement for 2014/15 school year Pertussis (whooping cough) - NEW requirement for 2014/15 school year Varicella (chickenpox) - NEW requirement for 2014/15 school year, for children born in 2010 or later
Source: Ontario Health
Is this anti-vaccination movement something new? As in, has it ever been this big before?
it hasn't been news worty until suddenly we have potentially 2-3000 cases floating around, frankly it shouldn't be super-note worthy, this problem has been festering for a decade, but i'm all for the media spotlight burning up the anti-vaxxers, let the media's intense invasive scrutiny shut up jenny mccarthy and her ilk, and its forced the media to finally admit that there's no two sides to this argument, you either believe in vaccinating or are completely full of shit

(Even if you knew that, it might be informative to someone else reading this!)
