What someone else said. Terrible levels of education. People have terrible education, stay poor, live a life of crime, get financial aid from the government on a minimal level, corrupt people stay in power essentially "bribing" the poor and investing on anything but education.

Seriously, doesn't matter how much Brazil evolves economically. It won't matter as long as we have millionaires driving around in their ferraris while people live in miserable conditions not too far from them. I'm not even exaggerating here. The social inequality is something you'd see in a movie or something.

A little more insider info? Brazilians are not okay with the world cup this year/olympics eventually being hosted around here. We KNOW we are not prepared and I get the feeling all this will do is make Brazil seem like an even more awful place than news like these already do. It sucks.

Many things but most of all the low education levels. Most people here are quite alienated. One can go to high school, do nothing and still conclude it.
I had a few terrible teachers during almost my whole life. I'm on college now and this is the first time that ALL of my teachers are there to actually do their jobs.

I remember high school when we had to write about something in geography. Someone wrote a cake recipe and still got it approved.

This country have NO structure to host this event. A lot of money which could be invested on healthcare or education are being injected in the construction of stadiums that are going to be used only for this event.

to give a rundown of centuries of history is kinda hard, i can tell you however that brazil never had particularly good education for the population at large(only for the rich elite), and we're A VERY conservative country, to the contrary of what it may seem from the outside or even the inside(people generally like to pretend they're "progressive" only), to make things even "better", our dictatorship pretty much forbade sociology and philosophy during the dictatorship and put "social sciences(lol)" in its place, which only made things worse, and only a few years ago, it became standard on schools again, so you're stuck with a people that don't understand politics, and only now are starting learn the ropes.

ironically in part, thanks to our much maligned "left"-wing government, which has been striving to make some improvements to brazilian education, even if not perfect, which also everyone blames for everything ever, as if they were both in power and had absolute power for a century or something over brazil. :v:

also our elite pretty much sees themselves as nearly aristocrats, and in a way they're kinda correct(look up coronelismo, if you're interested which still exists to some extend), only way corruption in brazil will be improved, is by removing the old guard, which i honestly doubt will ever happen.

funny you say that, because brazilians in general are friendly compared to most IRL, you're doing the equivalent of basing your idea of a nation, on what dumb kids at 4chan or 2ch(as a general example) say, most brazilians you see acting like assholes on the net, are 95% of the time dumb 10-16 year olds.
