Fast: Compose messages right from your inbox.
Simple: Redesigned with a clean, streamlined look.
Powerful: Check emails as you’re typing, minimize drafts for later, and even compose two messages at once.
What do you think about it? I personally think it's the biggest load of ass since the new interface. It forces your email in a small window on the right side of your screen, it makes all formatting options go in cascade menus which are ridiculously annoying to navigate and it's also shit.
The interface I'm using right now to make this thread is better than the new compose. It takes three clicks to justify text to the right as of now. Compared to the old... One.
It's shit.
Agreed.
Step 1: Get a standalone email client of your choice (Outlook, Thunderbird, whatever)
Step 2: Configure it to retrieve and send emails from and through your Gmail box using pop3/IMAP/SMTP
Congratulations, you will never have to worry about the scary concept of change, as long as you don't change your email client!

Yes, let's use an external application for something as simple as sending an email just because someone had the brilliant idea of changing something that was not only not broken, but worked absolutely flawlessly.
Have you also thought about the fact that a lot of people (me included) use more than one device at any given time and/or regularly need to access their email from someone else's device?
I'm all for change if it brings something positive to the table.
I hate people like you by the way.
You know, for a company as big as Google they sure are fucking retarded when it comes to making an interface that works and then STICKING with it. Youtube's been swapped out every 4 months and I bet you we'll see the same thing with fucking GMail.
I dont mind it because i have to send an email like once every 5 months.

GMail hasn't seen an interface rework for like a year and a half now.
Personally I like this interface more, but I almost never send emails anyway.

strawman much
Wow it literally kicked me out of GMail a few minutes ago and forced this change through my throat bah.
While I am not a huge fan of the new compose menu, I would not like to jump on the hate bandwagon, but for once I would like a company, which most of the time happens to be either Google or Facebook, to give proper reasons and quantitative data on why they are implementing the said change. I mean why switch to this new compose layout and why now? Without using stupid and meaningless buzzwords like "integration" and "improve end user experience".
It doesn't bother me in the slightest

Well thank you, I hate you too!
The previous Gmail composer was bloated, slow, and weird. I don't expect features from browser applications, I expect that it won't suck out my data limit, that it will display on my pedal trike of choice, and that it won't require me to pull out manual to figure out what I am doing.
Google made the correct decision in my opinion - Web- minimalistic. Want features? Get a standalone.

because nobody cares and everyone is gonna suck it up and use it anyway
Its also worth noting this was in beta for ages, they probably decided to roll it out based on the people who used it and on feedback given. If you guys didn't like it, you could have sent in some feedback during the time it was in beta.
Don't use Gmail then?
There are other alternatives that may have what you're looking for.
We chose GMail because we liked it how it was when we chose it. Now they are changing things for the worse and it's not really a 2 minute job to update 50 accounts to use a new email address.
I use email a lot and it's a fucking pain in the ass to use this interface, even atachments only work half of the time.

You know you can just automatically reroute the mailbox to pass all the mails that come to a new one, right?

Bloated? Slow? Weird? What?

Sorry, what? You were having trouble navigating this?
oh no now i have to spend 10 minutes figuring out everything all over again
i wish gmail still looked like this:

I don't mind them minimizing the space a bit but shoving all the formatting options into a tiny ass menu is just a pain in the ass.

I am not talking about navigation. I am talking about loading time. This crap choked for me like a bitch. The new stuff loads faster.
Its a load of shit, it chokes up and barely works on low bandwidth connections.
My connection is the embodiment of low bandwidth and it works fine for me. Odd.
I'm sorry but most of the replies in this thread are idiotic. As if a Google representative came down here. I did give feedback on the new interface and that is why I wish to receive feedback back. I want to know how many people liked the various aspects of the interface and if they had tried to respond and change according to the criticisms people made.
Just because you have to use something doesn't mean you can't expect a bit of information why they decided to implement the change. If anything I am curious why they thought it was time for this change, not in a positive or negative way, just curious, after all they probably know something I don't.

If whatever you're using chokes up when loading that, your problem lies elsewhere.

It was worse, now it's better. My problem is gone. I am happy. You are the one who has a problem.
Thanks, Google, thumbs up!
Going to have to get used to it, i guess.
Oh Google.
This, Youtube's redesign and almost else everything they've done... they're just so bad at UI design far too often.
It's like they don't go about any change from a UI perspective, but rather approach things as engineers.
Edit: Obviously not everything is so badly designed. Drive isn't bad. It's just in general.

I'm willing to bet it was because it was in beta for so long and there was probably a significant number of people using it.
However I have no clue why they did this for sure, I can only guess.
Since I usually only send quite small e-mails, I don't touch the formatting options so this doesn't bother me in the slighest (I actually like it).
I can see how it can annoy other people though, I don't know why they couldn't keep both (and use the new one as a fast reply sort of window).
I also just noticed that you can't attach multiple files at the same time - you have to either do it one by one or upload them to your Google Drive.
