• Looking in to playing Bass

Hey, I've been playing electric guitar for a couple of years now, and I'm looking in to trying bass. I might borrow one from a friend or buy a cheap one. Does anyone know any good videos to recommend for helping out starters? I'm quite clueless on bass guitars, I can read tabs but I don't know about finger picking and slapping and all that jazz.
I played electric guitar for about a year before I started playing bass and the transition was pretty easy. Some people don't have such an easy transition though, so don't be surprised if you have a bit of a learning curve. It is good to understand that you need to learn to play the bass like a bass as opposed to play the bass like a guitar. It takes a while to build up finger strength and I highly recommend you stop finger picking right when/if it starts to hurt. If you don't your hand feels like hell the next day. Really don't be afraid to use a pick, the idea that real bass players don't use picks is silly, especially considering that a pick based tone may be more appropriate for certain songs. I'd wait a bit to learn how to slap, at least until you get the basics of it down well. For learning there is always stuff on youtube. Personally I think it might be better to get a lesson DVD. You can certainly learn everything off of youtube, but I find that there are disadvantages to this.
If you want good videos sith excercises and easy songs, search for Dmanlamius on Youtube, his lessons are great.
fact - slapping is a bitch, but when you get it right, you get it right makes a really unique sound, and can really knock a line up a notch
If you've already sunk a couple of years into another stringed instrument, you should pick it up quick enough.
To me slapping is way easier than fingerpicking on bass, I'm a guitarist really but fingerpicking is a bitch.
