A row which left an Afghan soldier dead and three Nato colleagues wounded occurred at the new UK-run officer training academy, it has emerged.
The Afghan National Army Officer Academy in Kabul - dubbed Sandhurst in the Sand - opened last week.
BBC correspondent David Loyn said the incident on Saturday was a "blow to the morale of the new academy".
Afghan government sources said the Afghan had fired a shot in a row with his colleagues, who had returned fire.
The sources said the Afghan soldier, who was guarding the gate of the academy, had confiscated a laptop computer from a driver, prompting soldiers from Australia and New Zealand to try to take it back from him.
They swore at the Afghan soldier and he shot one of the Australians in the chest, the sources added.
It is believed the bullet fragmented against his body armour and hit another Australian and a New Zealander, before the Afghan was shot dead.
There's almost a joke about uncleared history here
Glad the wounds aren't serious and that dickhead got what he deserved
That's really shitty, it's unfortunate that this happened. I wonder, was the soldier some type of Taliban infiltrator type, or was he doing his job (correctly or incorrectly) in trying to take the laptop?
I hope they can resolve the cause of this so it doesn't happen again.
Unfortunate
But I can't say I'm surprised
The ANA are a joke. They are more of a danger than the Taliban.

I remember a BBC documentary where some british troops had them on their patrol to train them, one of them fired an RPG without confirming the target, turned out it was a little girl.

The ANA remind me in many respects of the original nineties Northern Alliance soldiers. Some of those guys were really barbaric. There was a picture of a dead Talibani soldier hanging dead from the barrel of a tank that became quite well known in India - one of those iconic photos that represented the war at the time, on par with Napalm Girl.
I am worried for what will happen when everyone leaves them to their own devices again.

Or the VICE documentary "This is what winning looks like". You kept seeing them shoot at random stuff, strip the vehicles they were given of parts and siphon fuel. At least from what was shown there, they are incompetent as hell
Imagine the frustrations of the people that try and work with them

Thanks for that, I just watched it and I can't believe these people are allowed weapons..
When the NATO forces leave afghanistan it's going to fall back into its hole of shit, and sink even deeper.
