As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Mr Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the Moon on 20 July 1969. In a statement, Nasa administrator Charles Bolden wished the "true American hero" a quick recovery. "Neil's pioneering spirit will surely serve him well in this challenging time," Mr Bolden said. Fellow Apollo 11 astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, tweeted that he was "sending my best wishes for a speedy recovery- we agreed to make it the 50th Apollo Anniv in 2019". Eugene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, told NBC News that the 82-year-old's wife, Carol Armstrong, said her husband was in high spirits. Mr Armstrong failed a stress test on Monday, leading to the surgery. He has largely kept out of the spotlight after his famous moonwalk, but testified in front of Congress in September 2011 on Nasa's future, along with Mr Cernan. Mr Armstrong, along with three other astronauts, received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest US civilian award, in November.
Obviously those surgeons did a good job. You don't want to be the one letting the first man walking on the moon die on you.
Obviously those surgeons did a good job. You don't want to be the one letting the first man walking on the moon die on you.
I am sorry but I would expect them to not to want anybody die on them.
I am sorry but I would expect them to not to want anybody die on them.
Of course, i just wonder if surgeons or w/e are under more pressure when dealing with a famous person.
Of course, i just wonder if surgeons or w/e are under more pressure when dealing with a famous person.
Not really, every life is treated equal in a surgeons eyes
Not really, every life is treated equal in a surgeons eyes
That depends on the surgeon. It varies from person to person. Some hold others in a higher regard.
That depends on the surgeon. It varies from person to person. Some hold others in a higher regard.
Any surgeon that values any life on the operating table differently from others, shouldn't be a surgeon. On a different note, I wish Neil a speedy recovery, he better make it to the 50th anniversary!
That depends on the surgeon. It varies from person to person. Some hold others in a higher regard.
Then those surgeons should get fired? "Oh, this heart surgery is for a FAMOUS person, better be extra careful because their life is above others!" Fred Hollow was an eye surgeon, you've probably seen his ads on tv a while ago. "Every eye is an eye, when you're doing the surgery there that is just as important as if you were doing eye surgery on the prime minster or the king."

Me and Armstrong share the same birthday :) Glad to see he's doing fine!
I wonder why Armstrong doesn't make more public appearances. Buzz Aldrin is goddamn everywhere.
the first man to walk on the Moon
good thing they clarified that. I'd never heard of neil armstrong before this article
82? Crap, we're only a few years away from watching all the remaining Apollo astronauts die of old age without ever seeing somebody return to the moon. That is fucking depressing.
Obviously those surgeons did a good job. You don't want to be the one letting the first man walking on the moon die on you.
No pressure.
Heart bypass is surprisingly safe other surgeries are a lot more dangerous
It was that moon dust, I tells you!
82? Crap, we're only a few years away from watching all the remaining Apollo astronauts die of old age without ever seeing somebody return to the moon. That is fucking depressing.
I feel it too. No one has gone back to the moon since that time, I really hope someone gets their shit together and goes back. What if NASA could scrap up the funding/permission to do an anniversary...moon landing! Have a new moon landing on the same day as the first for the 50th one. Buuuuutttt I doubt that will happen :(
good thing they clarified that. I'd never heard of neil armstrong before this article
Yes it is a good thing, because some people like me get Lance and Neil confused, so we like to have confirmation that it's one or the other.
