The Iranian Defense Ministry has announced that the country unveiled a new advanced fighter aircraft. IRIBNEWS reported.
The domestically-designed and developed fighter jet, codenamed Qaher-313 (Conqueror-313), was put on display on Saturday on the occasion of the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations commemorating the victory of 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a number of high-ranking military officials attended the unveiling ceremony.
Iranian Defence Miniter Ahmad Vahidi that Qaher-313 is advanced fighter jet.
really weird looking iranian fighter vs overpriced f-35s
who will win this clash of the egos
"It even uses a power cord!"
Nah this is their most advanced model yet.
It uses (4) D Batteries and a lawnmower engine.
weird looking? more like awesome
weird looking? more like awesome
it has frog legs..
I actually want to see this thing in action.

It wouldn't last very long.
I kinda like that sort of neo-futuristic design.
"It even uses a power cord!"
Are you blind? its being powered by the supreme leader.
Was expecting more
I'm actually curious and hope to hear why they went with that... style.. Maybe it has some benefits.
What I almost though was Santa Clause made me do a double take.
I actually want to see this thing in action.
You're not going to see it in action. Iran has a history of producing fake military equipment for the media for propaganda purposes
Not gonna lie, it actually looks pretty badass. I'd love to see the thing in action.

2/10 wings too stubby
Here is an HD image I found doing some searching.
Judging by the pictures and the image name its designation is F-313.

It looks like something out of Ace Combat.
in all seriousness though that's some major anhedral going on at the wing tips, i wonder why they did that
It looks like an F-35

Intimidation. "Ey look everyone, I got this ultra-k00l futuristik jet that I made. MYSELF. ALL ALONE!"
It's going to be interesting to see how good it performs.
I thought it was going to be another F-5 copycat thing, I'm surprised.

They have some weird shaping going on back at the engine. If you look closely it has saw toothed panels at the landing gear compartment. Maybe its a cheap attempt at a stealthy light fighter? It doesn't seem like a cover-up, since its being presented to the president/other officials from Oman and Iran on the anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution and apparently letting journalists get a good look at it in full HD.
I'm placing my bets on mockup, I'll wait til I see it actually fly.
It looks surprisingly futuristic. If that is real, its pretty badass.
Watch as it either never takes off, or hits the ground 5 minutes afterwards.
It looks like they are displaying it in the community center in the basement of a church.
Like the whole of their military might would be unveiled in a room that smells vaguely of incense and mildew.
attempt at a stealthy light fighter?
considering the shapes used all over the airframe, I would say definitely so
Watch as it either never takes off, or hits the ground 5 minutes afterwards.
Everytime this is said it comes closer to being false, it's just complacent thinking.
I'm pretty interested to see if it functions and if the stealth design is just aesthetics
It wouldn't last very long.
I know Iran isn't an elite figurehead when it comes to military prowess, but they won't be fighting with spears and stone knives. I want to see if the things they've revealed can hold water to their capabilities and not spill it.
Something about the skin looks shoddy to me.
Something about the skin looks shoddy to me.
It looks really shiny for RAM or something. I'm interested in seeing how it will perform.
also it lacks all-moving wings, even on the Canards.
Stabilators were developed in response to the need to achieve adequate pitch control in supersonic flight, and are almost universal on modern military combat aircraft. All[citation needed] non-delta-winged supersonic aircraft use stabilators because with conventional control surfaces, shock waves can form past the elevator hinge, causing severe mach tuck.
I'd seriously like to see this thing fly, or even get near supersonic.
[editline]2nd February 2013[/editline]
Though I'm not an aeronautical engineer so maybe it doesn't need them. I just know that every supersonic aircraft since the Bell X-1 has had them.
After the rocket plane ran into compressibility problems in 1947, it was modified with variable-incidence tailplane. An all-moving tail was developed by the British for the Miles M.52, but was first used in transonic flight on the X-1, allowing it to pass through the sound barrier safely.
Fixed canards. That's certainly new to me.
