• HBO to make film of Scientology book, hires 160 lawyers
HBO is backing a documentary based on "Going Clear," a book about Scientology and Hollywood -- and isn't taking any chances with the legal side of things. "We have probably 160 lawyers" looking at the film, HBO Documentary Films President Sheila Nevins told The Hollywood Reporter. (HBO, like CNN, is a unit of Time Warner.) "Going Clear," by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Lawrence Wright ("The Looming Tower"), digs into the life of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and the influence his church has had on its believers, many of whom have close ties to Hollywood. Some of Wright's findings, including claims of abuse, didn't go over well with the church. "The stories of alleged physical abuse are lies concocted by a small group of self-corroborating confessed liars. The hard evidence clearly shows that no such conduct ever occurred and that in fact there is evidence that shows it did NOT occur," the group's spokeswoman, Karin Pouw, told CNN's Miguel Marquez in 2013. HBO expects to air the documentary in 2015.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/25/showbiz/movies/going-clear-hbo-movie-lawyers/?cid=ob_articlesidebarall&iref=obinsite

Oh man, two things here tell you it's going to seriously tear them an asshole. One, HBO, and two lots of lawyers. This'll shape up to be an incredible fight between one absolutely insane organization, and another incredibly huge film group.

I have one of these books because I did a project about Scientology in school sometime ago. That thing is almost sci-fi.

Actually, 160 lawyers might be slightly comservative, given the legal buttfucking that the Scientologists usually try to inflict.
Comedy Central went pretty well with the college lawyer Matt and Trey probably hired
How do you fit 160 lawyers in a courtroom? Do they just build a massive tent and have them all pile up across the Jury?
Actually, 160 lawyers might be slightly comservative, given the legal buttfucking that the Scientologists usually try to inflict.
I think Wal-Mart has more lawyers on-call and ready to deploy anywhere in the world if you so much as dare to say "union".
They are probably going to have to pay those guys overtime too.
This is like a lord raising up an army before sieging a castle. This is going to be a massive bloody lawyer battle.
"Our lawyers will blot out the sun!"
Yeah, but it's scientology. It's going to be the nucear armament race, but with lawyers instead of ICBMs
hopefully there won't be a repeat of south park
This doesn't help that case
Haha oh boy are you in for a treat, how about this quote by him. "L. Ron Hubbard to Lloyd A. Eshbach, in 1949; as quoted by Eshbach in his autobiography Over My Shoulder: Reflections On A Science Fiction Era (1983) ISBN 1-880418-11-8 Y'know, we're all wasting our time writing this hack science fiction! You wanta make real money, you gotta start a religion!" Im so fucking pumped for this documentary, Scientology is fucked up, every time a new little whiff of shit from it comes out its always just as fucked and chilling as the last. So an HBO professional documentary is gonna be fucking amazing.
"Good luck, I'm behind 160 lawyers"
"Good luck, I'm behind 160 lawyers"
hahaha, the only funny pun in this thread.
hahaha, the only funny pun in this thread.
it isn't even a pun
We have probably 160 lawyers
Something about this makes me laugh, I just picture a huge room full of lawyers and some poor sod just throwing up his arms in frustration as he tries to count them
Something about this makes me laugh, I just picture a huge room full of lawyers and some poor sod just throwing up his arms in frustration as he tries to count them
this is how court cases are settled
Something about this makes me laugh, I just picture a huge room full of lawyers and some poor sod just throwing up his arms in frustration as he tries to count them
Personally, I imagine Tom Cruise getting about half way through a sentence before being cut off by 160 individual but equally justifiable counterarguments.
"Our lawyers will blot out the sun!"
Then we will litigate in the shade.
