Pretty hyped for this game.
Trailer is awesome.
man is the basic premise of this cool or what
Grey goo as an idea is scary as shit. Just glass everything to be safe
So we have here an alliance of humans and some alien civ vs some alien species that evolved into some goo.
Interesting
I haven't been following this game at all but it looks pretty cool.
It's interesting that the humans are the more technologically advanced faction, a nice change from the usual sci-fi settings.
Thanks afro, dunno how i managed to fuck up those tags. :v:

The Betas (non-Goo aliens) were advanced untill their whole fleet crashed on the planet featured in the game. They were forced to pretty much salvage everything and redo most tech etc. from scratch.
Some elements of each faction remind me of the three from Petro's other RTS game, Universe at War. Kinda hope it's better than that was.
I'm hoping it's good. I want classic Westwood to shine through.
Hell, they've even got Frank Klepacki doing music again. Even if the game doesn't hit the mark the ost will be amazing.
I've seen the game in action, and it seems pretty great, although apparently very few units, if any, have any "active abilities", like you don't have Stimpaks on your basic soldiers like in Starcraft. However apparently it has an easy way to quickly construct what you need, though I don't know how best to describe the system other than you won't need to do much in the way of hotkeying.
TB did a stream of Grey Goo recently, he might be able to describe the systems a bit better.

Frank Klepacki is doing the music if iirc
EDIT: woops I'm late
Can't wait for this game though
Really excited for this, didn't realise it'd be out so soon. Westwood games were my staple for PC gaming, and my introduction to RTS, and I'm glad to see the devs continuing to show off their talent.
It's been a long time since I've been into an RTS, I'm excited to see how this turns out.
cool premise and definitely looking forward to more content, but i cant help but feel like the title sounds a bit childish

Grey goo is an actual scientific term. From wiki: "Grey goo is a hypothetical end-of-the-world scenario involving molecular nanotechnology in which out-of-control self-replicating robots consume all matter on Earth while building more of themselves, a scenario that has been called ecophagy ("eating the environment")."
wasnt this a minecraft mod?

ah okay then, it just felt a little off not knowing what the term was
reminds me of that story that 12 year old wrote about some slime things that absorbed all life of earth and it ended with a battle between the goo and like the angel of death of something. I can't remember.
wasnt this a minecraft mod?
Then again what wasn't
In case you didn't know, Petroglyth (developer) was formed by some of the guys at westwood, so they know what they're doing when it comes to RTS's
This isn't a typical westwood game though. Seems to be more like a certain Blizzard one... Very macro oriented.
Followed the game for a bit, thus far not impressed. I can see people liking it but I prefer more brawlish RTS, Westwood style. I don't care about the dev's names or stories.
Some elements of each faction remind me of the three from Petro's other RTS game, Universe at War. Kinda hope it's better than that was.
Well Universe at war was mean to be a trilogy, but that was canned due to it performing poorly. So Grey Goo is taking a bit of the lost concepts from Universe at war, along with some of the design idea (Probably because it's most of the same designers, who also did Command and Conquer). It could be related to Universe at War discretely too, as the Humans in Grey Goo are very reminiscent of the Novus. Universe at war's sequel was going to see the Novus combining with humanity, and possibly some Masari things.
I don't think I'd be picking this up any time soon though. It's very Starcraft style, and Starcraft is the kind of RTS I don't really like. Would have been much better if it was more true to classic C&C Style, or even Universe at War's close to C&C style.
When you think about it the Flood from Halo is pretty much a Grey Goo scenario, just with organics instead of nanomachines. Flood is scary as shit, I think I had a nightmare about it once.
Bump, because the Goo demanded it.
