A smoldering rage may be all that remains after Gene Cranick's home burned to the ground last week in Obion County, Tennessee.
Firefighters are usually the bold "vini, vidi, vici" sort, but those from neighboring South Fulton could only say "vini, vidi." They came. They watched. That's it.
Cranick lives outside of the city limits and he admits that he forgot to pay a $75 service fee that would have provided him with fire protection. Firefighters wouldn't lift a finger, much less the hoses that might have saved the house.
The fire reportedly started in some barrels outside. As the flames crept closer to the home, Cranick says he offered to pay whatever it would take. The plea fell on deaf ears. Hours later, the home was gone.
So were three dogs and a cat.
"They coulda' been saved if they put water on it. But they didn't do it," said Cranick.
The South Fulton firefighters did show up and managed to save a neighbor's field. The neighbor had paid the fee. But they would provide no heroics for the Cranicks. A local news report shows them climbing back on their trucks, flames still dancing over what was once the family's home.
hey, what the fuck man.
what the fuck, just water that shit down.
That's so shitty, I don't care if they weren't given the fee, they should protect his house so they THEN can get paid
Don't understand how that's legal that the firefighters didn't do a thing.
what dicks
Don't understand how that's legal that the firefighters didn't do a thing.
They probably would have got in trouble if they had.
Wow those firefighters can just fuck right off.
They probably would have got in trouble if they had.
Well fuck that shit. I would've punched them in the face and grabbed the damn hose myself if I was walking by and saw that.
Is there anyway to donate to him and his family?
I mean seriously, what would have happened to those firefighters if they had helped out?
"So you saved someones house and pets? BUT WHAT ABOUT THE $75? THATS COMING OUT OF YOUR PAYCHECK!!!!"
Firefighters used to be a pricate service, somehow, republicans think that the last 40 years of firefights has been terrible, and it's now worth looking at re-privatization. It's fucked up. it's obviously not a good thing.
That's such horseshit.
His home burned down and his pets died. What the fuck.
The firefighters could've just fucking put out the fire, and then had him just be in debt the $75.
For christ's fucking sake.
They probably would have got in trouble if they had.
As unlikely as this is, if they had a heart and half a brain they'd have done it anyway. Bunch of assholes they are...
They fucking left the house still burning after the goddamn house was burned down!! What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Republicans. Did they ever do anything good? Only thing they leave behind is death, destruction and stupid laws! They are the reason stuff like this happens!!! Well I'm joining the bandwagon on this one for once! :bandwagon:
They fucking left the house still burning after the goddamn house was burned down!! What the fuck is wrong with these people?
agreed, if they had waited until the house had JUST burnt down and only then put the fire out, it would have been much funnier
Fuck they're unionizing!
I would burn down their fire department.

A private firefighting company would likely have put out the fire and just sent a bill for 75$.
A public firefighting organization is funded by taxes and would also just put out a fire.
A government "privatized" (read: contracted) firefighting company pulls shit like this.
I can understand the law itself, but with health things they don't just fucking let you die because you haven't paid your insurance or something, or even if you can't pay your bills, they make you pay it later.
I would burn down their fire department.
what if they paid you $75 not to

privatizing the fire department is like the worst idea i heard all day
That's pathetic, I wonder if the same would've happened if a firefighter forgot to pay the fee and his house was on fire.
Wow, those Firefighters are fucking assholes, really.
Our Fire Department is 100% Voluntary (fires aren't common enough to warrant a full-time paid department around here). They're provided with trucks and equipment, and they do what they need to when they need to.

I normally disagree with him, but I have to say I agree with Tetracycline on this. The article even said he'd pay whatever it takes and they still let his house burn down. That's complete bullshit.

only the rich deserve protection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the most rageworthy thing ever. I'd have some murdering to do, I think
I bet they're all like: "No money? No work!"

Pretty much this, the huffington post is an extremely biased news source and this is gold to them.
They are assholes, I'll grant you that, but this is the fault of assholes and a law built by assholes (Pay attention now, i just called Republicans assholes while disagreeing with the Democrats at the same time, thats how i roll son)
You might argue, who wouldn't want to have fire protection? Stupid people. It is however their prerogative.

He offered them money, they still refused.
