A policeman in Uganda has reportedly shot a tortoise dead, maintaining the reptile attacked him at his home.
The incident, which has left Officer Charles Onegiu “traumatised and stressed”, occurred in the Nebbi district in the north of the country.
Onegiu claims he was relaxing in his home after work when the hard-shelled assailant made his move.
“I tried to scare it but the tortoise became very aggressive. I took a stick to chase it but it instead became more violent making me to make alarm,” he told New Vision newspaper.
really
if only the tortoise had a gun this never would have happened
the policeman shoulda fire off warning shots into the air
I highly doubt the tortoise was the aggressor in this conflict.
Out of all of the big, scary-ass animals in Africa, he blasts a tortoise?
I lost my uncle to an aggressive tortoise
why didn't he taze the tortoise
He should've shot the tortoise in the leg
tortoise are human too

...aaand there it is
if this tortoise had been a human being you'd all be calling for the death penalty, such typical hivemind mentalitys

The fuck are you talking about?
I would never call for the death penalty of an officer defending himself from a human aggressor.
I think your hivemind radar's broken.

He probably accidentally discharged his gun and thought this is best solution to avoid getting reprimanded for not maintaining proper gun safety :v:

This isn't a video game where tortoises go down after one shot. That tortoises probably had so much adrenaline at that point he would have kept going.

It's slow as fuck though. You might as well stand in front of an aggressive steamroller.
As someone who lived in Kenya and has dealt with African tortoises before I can say that they can be a hell of a lot faster than you expect, since they can actually sprint when suitably provoked, and they're also big, dumb, chompy bastards. When I lived in Nairobi we used to hear every once in a while of someone's dog or cat coming home with a broken paw, usually because it pissed off a tortoise. If there was one in my house I'd probably shoot it too, if it's in a biting mood you're not going to be able to just carry it outside without risking your fingers.

Why not just sit on it.
Give it the ankle lock.
