My grandpa took me to a cattle auction when I was much younger. Maybe 10 or so. He scared the crap out of me warning me if I did ANYTHING I would buy a cow. He was joking obviously since I was only 10, but I took it serious. I was as still as a statue, trying my hardest not to say anything, scratch myself, sneeze, anything. It was a fun memory

He came to troll the auction by bidding the price higher, in the expectation that someone else would then bid on-top of his bid, thus making the final buyer pay more than the cow was worth.
It backfired because nobody outbid him.

yeah there's generally a lot of starving families who have the ability to raise, slaughter, and then butcher a cow for meat
it's pretty common that people who can't feed their families show up to cattle auctions so it's sad to see them get outbid like this
