[QUOTE]Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster has said the UK is developing a proposal that would see the UK border moving to include the Republic.
In an upcoming interview with the BBC programme Hardtalk, talking about the possibility of such a move, the Democratic Unionist Party leader said: "They were speaking about this long before the European Union exit vote was taken. How do we protect ourselves as two islands against terrorism?
"How do we protect ourselves in other ways? And the way they were talking about was using the common travel area and having that special relationship recognised by working very closely together.
"Of course this will have to be accepted by the other member states in Europe.
"We can't enter into negotiations into any of this until Article 50 is triggered and the Republic's Government is very keen to point out that they are not in negotiation at the moment they are in discussion."
Yesterday, Ms Foster told Stormont Assembly members she would not expect or want the UK government to adopt a position until all the options - including implications for Northern Ireland - had been considered.
She said she would be "concerned" if plans for exiting the EU had been finalised.
"It should be no surprise to anyone that the UK has not yet finalised its plans for leaving the EU, indeed if they had I would be concerned, given that they are in detailed discussions with us to help shape the plan," said Ms Foster.
"They are still at the information-gathering and analysis stage which is a huge task covering many areas of government.
"We are currently feeding our own assessment of the issues into this process through the Joint Ministerial Committee and extensive bi-lateral engagement between officials."

Short article, I hope it's alright I quoted it all.
She does realise this would be a gross violation of our sovereignty right?
It's also completely unmanageable. We obviously still want EU citizens being allowed to come and please. Why do we have to do the work of the UK?
I swear if this is just a distraction to force a hard border... I genuinely fear for the future.
UK wouldn't dare violate another state's sovereignty after their bullshit 'take back our sovereignty!!!' referendum and getting assblasted by the international community.

Foster's most likely saying it just to stir shit and distract people from the real issues that Brexit is going to bring.

Foster is easily the worst thing to happen to the North since the collapse of Sunningdale. At least Peter Robinson was willing to communicate properly with the South. Foster would gladly cut off all communication if she could get away with it.
Northern Ireland should secede and form a united island.

I don't want a Troubles 2.0 thank you.
Wait, what?
I don't think I follow. Could somebody run it by in simpleton terms?

Not entirely sure, looking at a few articles, it seems to suggest that the UK and Ireland will potentially have open borders between each other.
Meanwhile, Ireland will also adopt stronger border controls akin to the UKs, as far as I can tell.
Arlene Foster's a fucking psycho who doesn't give a shit about us in Northern Ireland. Her party masturbating hardcore over "muh unionism" has completely ignored Northern Ireland being a region that voted in favour of remaining in the EU. Albeit, it was as slim a margin as the overall result, but getting mugged off, especially since we're sharing a border with an EU nation, is very frustrating.
I'm a natural unionist sympathiser, but the DUP can get lost, and people need to stop voting them into power.

Let's not get too hasty guys.
Whether Northern Ireland wants to join the Republic of Ireland is up for the people of Northern Ireland to decide in the end. Certainly Brexit has changed that dynamic but it's unknown what's going to end up happening in the end.
What I will say is that I would HATE for a hard border to come. I'd be bloody livid as it's done so much to repair relations between both sides of the island and has brought increased economic propserity. It'd be a huge backwards step and could result in violence.
I'm basically the opposite of CMB (for fairly obvious reasons) but I agree that the DUP are not a forward thinking unionist party. As far as I am aware the UUP is much more moderate and they also backed staying in the EU. I feel that they could better work with Sinn Fein, but then again I can't be completely sure of that.
What I can be sure of is that with Foster the way she is and with how Northern Ireland is being treated by the British government, I fear there is only trouble ahead...
quick, call gerry!

as if the UK ever truely saw Ireland as a sovern state

Uh.
I mean we're a long ways past the days of imperialists like Winston Churchill. Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland could have a referendum tomorrow to join together as an independent country and if both voted yes, well, it'd be tough shit for the United Kingdom.
I mean considering the fact that the Republic has been following fairly separate policies for everything but Northern Ireland for decades now does show we are a sovereign state.
Make no mistake. The relationship between the UK and the Republic of Ireland has never been better.
But that could change if Brexit goes poorly.
How long do they have to wait before they can call another referendum that allows them back in the EU?

Well they haven't left yet, but they're leaving in March, and obviously saying "oops we don't want to leave actually" after triggering Article 50 would piss off everyone.
So the earliest would probably be right after the negotiations - which would be pointless.
If they were to rejoin the EU it'd probably take decades - for the whole of the UK, at-least.
If Scotland left the UK and tried to rejoin however it would be more than likely a simpler process. And if Northern Ireland joined the Republic of Ireland, it would be as simple as German reunification.
