Deliverance is a 1972 horror/thriller movie directed by John Boorman and starring Burt Reynolds, John Voight, Ronny Cox, and Ned Beatty. The film is based on the 1970 novel by the same name. At first they are having a great time being out in the wilderness completely away from civilization but soon, the whole trip turns into a nightmare. This is the movie that made popular the song "Dueling Banjo's" and the infamous line "Squeal like a piggy." This is a horrifying must-see movie and I don't want to spoil anything, but there is one scene in particular that is especially horrifying, you already know what I'm talking about if you've seen it. Deliverance was selected by The Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2008 for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Deliverance was selected by the New York Times as one of "The Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made". Viewers in the United Kingdom voted it #45 in a list of "The 100 Greatest Films".
Sounds awesome, Ill see if I can rent it.

It's not bad, but I honestly didn't like it. The two scenes you mentioned (the banjo scene and the [sp]redneck rape[/sp] scene) are really the only memorable moments in my opinion. But hey, disagree if you want.
I really need to get round to seeing this.
- lol should've spoiler tagged, just sniping -
People always talk about the 'famous' scene but never really discuss the movie in any depth. It's a great movie though.
My dad met the actor that played the [sp]rapist[/sp] dude. Lived near him. Also, movie was talked about in my screenwriting class, no comic relief once they're on the river. None.
There is a lot going on in this movie besides the two big scenes. The characters are so well drawn. One moment I always remember is when Ned Beatty's character gets intimidated by one redneck at the gas station, he kind of goes slinking over to Burt Reynolds' character for protection. Excellent foreshadowing and character development at once.
I recently looked into finally buying this movie and I went to 2 different stores but they didn't have it. I ended up ordering it off Amazon.
