Bobby Jindal Slams Romney For Saying Obama Won Because Of ‘Gifts’: ‘Stop Dividing American Voters'
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is not shying away from giving the Republican party advice on its messaging following its big election loss last week. Yesterday he said the party needs to stop peddling “dumbed-down conservatism,” and today he strongly rebutted Mitt Romney‘s claim that President Obama won reelection because of the “gifts” he gave to key voter demographics. Jindal said that comments like Romney’s divide Americans and are the kind of thing the GOP needs to stop saying if they want to win over more voters.
Romney said that Obama promising benefits like health care and amnesty for illegal immigrants helped him win reelection. Jindal said he “absolutely reject[s]” what Romney said, and that he wants the Republican party to work for everyone’s vote by explaining how their policies benefit people who want to make it in America.
"One, we have got to stop dividing American voters. We need to go after 100 percent of the votes, not 53 percent — we need to go after every single vote. And second, we need to continue to show that our policies help every voter out there achieve the American dream, which is to be in the middle class, which is to be able to give their children the opportunity to get a great education, which is for their children to have even better-paying jobs than their parents."
Jindal warned that for the Republican party to stay “competitive” in future elections, it has to show the electorate it is working to win every person’s vote, and not disparage different groups of Americans.

he catered to people in the center because that's what every presidential candidate does after primaries in order to get undecided votes.
this has literally happened with every single presidential election in the history of the united states of america.
You know, maybe if you and the rest of your party hadn't been such fucking children during the entire goddamn campaign, Obama might have had to actually try to get re-elected.
You make it embarrassing to be a conservative of any form. Get the hell out of the way so we can fix what you broke.
Being stubborn to the will of the American people in order to push forward their ideology will NEVER get them elected. Instead, how about listen to what the American people want, and do what you can to make it happen? It's like they have a view of what America should be, instead of what it wants to be.
I wonder if he runs in 2016 how his comments will affect it.
It's either going to give him a wild boost in the nomination process or kill him early.

i feel like the only reason he's making all these comments is to put himself in the position to be the next candidate

I don't think so. It's rather dicey to yell this harshly at your own party. He can easily lose all the support of the GOP if he goes far enough.
Liberal in disguise, liberal propaganda war machine, not a real conservative, etc..
Point is, if you're aligning yourself with a party, you have to always back them up, regardless if you agree or disagree with them on any topic. That's just the way it works.
Bobby Jindall? Running for president? Pffttt hahaha

We had our first black president, why not our first South Asian?

maybe it's the cynic in me but i can't help but feel it's just a power play. although you could be right, because if it is a power play it's a stupid one, i think most the hardcore republicans would be 100% behind what romney is saying
My god what a cry baby

The Republican party might be dumb, but they won't run Romney again, he fucked up big time
so facepunch slams romney for saying obama won unfairly, and then they slam jindal for slamming romney for saying obama won unfairly

I think the point being made is that wanting to 'reach out to 100 percent of the electorate', however good it may be in principle, is meaningless when your party platform contains policies that are not beneficial to a significant chunk of that electorate.
Should have made them leave their key, thisispain

You obviously don't know the difference between a political politician and a true politician.

Doesn't seem like very sound democratic politics then. The US 2 party system is highly outdated and the voting system even more so.
Knowing nothing of the US politics in detail I've had the feeling for a few years already that the system could use a tune up.

Our voting system is from the days of dirt roads and horses, no shit it's outdated :v:
But it never gets mentioned in politics, the closest you'll find is "reform / remove electoral college".

The two party system has always been detrimental, our first president warned against it and today we have one of the most broken and corrupt legislatures in the western world.

Being conservative in any way but still "reaching out to 100% of the electorate" isn't a thing that can happen.
I think the point being made is that wanting to 'reach out to 100 percent of the electorate', however good it may be in principle, is meaningless when your party platform contains policies that are not beneficial to a significant chunk of that electorate.
Doing what the electorate wants done is the entire reason representatives are elected at all. They should be voting based on what the people who voted them in want, not what the people in their party want. Voting down party lines is part of why nothing gets done in Congress as it is.
Which is why I've been saying some time for these whiny old men to move over.
Give it a few years, once this current generation is eligible for state office of any kind, get ready to watch as every old guy conservative in congress clenches their ass.
Until then, lets make fun of the bastards and wish they'd retire already.

Actually, the two party system prevents extreme polarization, since when you have like a billion different parties, only the most extreme become popular (see Golden Dawn)

Are you just ignoring all the other nations that haven't extreme polarization?
Everybody get up,

What, that's ridiculous. In Greece the most favoured party was Syriza (Left-wing coalition) at the last election, and at about the same level were centre-right Conservatives. Neither of these were the most extreme, and the ones that were, namely the Communists and Golden Dawn, received the lowest totals of any party.
