Seems no one mentioned about this so here you go
Planning two releases for 2017? Cyberpunk 2077 and another AAA game?
Not sure how to feel about that, CDPR, unless they've both been stewing for a while and are getting pretty close to release. I know CP2077 has been, but the other game? Not so sure.
Splitting into four teams, of which only two are tasked with games? I wonder what the other two teams will handle.

No, between 2017 and 2021.
No it says they're going to release two new games with 2017-2021
Two releases for the 2017-2021 period..
goddamn CDPR, i swore long ago i'd never be a game dev fanboy ever again but i'll suck your dick
I really hope to see Cyberpunk soon, hopefully it will be easier to get into than Witcher 3.
Link to the financial summary as well as an excel with more detailed information about CD Projeckt Red's financial information.
They made $800m in revenue last year. They only made $96m in revenue for all of 2014 and $25m first quarter 2015. The quarter that Witcher 3 released in (Q2 2015), they made $512m in revenue. The Witcher 3 must have shipped a fuck ton of units for them.
The Witcher 3 is sexual intercourse in a form of a video game
With that release date, I'm glad they're using cyberpunk 2077 and not 2020.
20 million copies, god damn
Absolutely well deserved tho, Witcher 3 may not have the best combat but its one of the very few rpgs ive ever played where i cared about the characters and story
Should have fucking bought cdpr stocks
It seems all roses, but if you're in the wrong political clique amongst the managers, working there can be a gigantic clusterfuck, and their workflow is still rough as hell, with a lot of wasted energy put in features that obviously aren't going to ship and should have been killed after alpha feature hardening was pretty much complete.
They're a good company to work for, but not a great one.
I guess this is what you get when you're a game developer where game development is only one part of where your money comes from.

You seem to know something about the subject, have you worked for CD Projekt before?
Bear in mind that Witcher 3 cost $81 million dollars to make. They made $800 million last year, and Witcher 3 was the only game they released last year. CDPR is doing pretty fucking well right now.

They also have GOG.
I haven't gotten into The Witcher 3 as much as most people it seems but I can still say that it's clearly a game that a lot of heart and soul went into so I'm happy to see them succeed.

This is why you shouldn't read and comments on news articles at 5AM, and instead should just go to bed.

Also remember those are "Poland" dollars. You need to multiply those numbers by 2 or 3, to realize how much money would that be in west.

All AAA game devs are like this though, the only exceptions I know being Valve and Bethesda (to some extent).
Hours are rough, workflow is generally not managed optimally, and seniority is still a thing. Being a game dev in general is a rough job, especially if you're AAA. Hell, a lot of devs in the AAA scene are essentially disposable.
As for the whole bit about "wasted energy on features that aren't going to ship", that's pretty common with game dev in general. Every game has ideas or features that were present in early development, but were cut in order to get the game out at all rather than being stuck constantly adding features onto it. Those features either simply didn't make sense given the game's structure, or didn't contribute much overall to the game's structure.
Game development isn't just as easy as installing UE4/Unity and creating a concept, it involves a lot of decision making, a lot of time/budget management, and sometimes a fair bit of drama (especially if you're AAA).
Can't wait for CP2077, thought it was cancelled or something. That release date just made me realise 2020 is four years away.. Holy shit
