Does this music video represent humanity? Completely ignore the whole 'god' part of it and watch the music video and listen to the lyrics... does it truely represent humanity? Lyrics: "Right In Two" Angels on the sideline, Puzzled and amused. Why did Father give these humans free will? Now they're all confused. Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around? Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys, Where there's one you're bound to divide it. Right in two. Angels on the sideline, Baffled and confused. Father blessed them all with reason. And this is what they choose. And this is what they choose... Monkey killing monkey killing monkey Over pieces of the ground. Silly monkeys give them thumbs, They forge a blade, And where there's one they're bound to divide it, Right in two. Right in two. Monkey killing monkey killing monkey. Over pieces of the ground. Silly monkeys give them thumbs. They make a club. And beat their brother, down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here. Cut and divide it all right in two [x4] Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky Fight over life, over blood, over prayer, overhead and light Fight over love, over sun, over another, Fight for each other, for the ones who are rising. Angels on the sideline again. Benched along with patience and reason. Angels on the sideline again Wondering when this tug of war will end. Cut and divide it all right in two [x3] RIGHT IN TWO! Right in two... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you wish to skip to the actual part of the video containing the 'earth' its around 2:00 Humanity is... complex, i think the video shows what is in essence, humanity. Say what you wish but i personally find that i agree with what i believe the video director was attempting to bring across. I feel the video is trying to show how, while people may do good things, the leading drive behind all of humanity is domination, war and violence, mabye not everyone, but it seems that the survivors and leaders of humanity generally seem to lead towards that route, wars fought over the smallest things, millions die just to satisfy the urges and opinions of the leader, nobody questions, and those who do are generally quietened down by the media, other people and such. Am i wrong or am i write? what are your opinions on this? Thoughts?
The video has extremely overt and obvious religious overtones and you say to ignore this in the second line of your post. It really defeats the purpose of the entire video, but I'll play along anyway. No, it doesn't represent humanity. The video is extremely blunt, generic, and simplistic. It assumes an inherent human violence and runs with it without any thought. There is no effort to display communication or unity among humans at all, which is a gigantic part of our nature. Instead, only simple domination and violence is displayed. The video can be summed up in one sentence: humanity is bad. If that's how you view humanity then I guess the video does a fine job depicting it. I disagree.
In regards to your first line, these were the lyrics i was mainly refuring too the most: Monkey killing monkey killing monkey Over pieces of the ground. In general i agree with what you say about it not showing the good points of humanity at all. I feel that it represents where humanity is going in the future too. This is because i see all of the restriction laws, covert operations, how the NSA, government and organizations spy on people... i just think 'how long until they take it a step ferther'. I already feel that the 'big people at the top' influance our views using media and beliefs. Do you think humanity may end up like that in the far future? a bit like the film 'equilibrium'?

I know the video is metaphorical in the ending but I don't see the world turning into an Orwellian dystopia. Not with the way the last century has turned out. The NSA spying is of little importance compared to a global system of control that the video seems to be implying.
No. To me it is just the typical doomsday fear mongering tat comes with a defeatist attitude, and it's really common with people who have just started to realise what really goes on, before actually understanding it. It relies on the "Slippery Slope" fallacy that politicians use to fight homosexuality and drugs, for example spouting statements such as "First gays are marrying! Whats next? Animals?!" The age we are in is fast becoming more and more transparent, and equal. I think it can only get better, not worse. I think such a pessemistic attitude is more destructive than most, because the faster you spread it the more power it gathers.
No, it doesn't. No one video can represent something that complex.
No, it doesn't. No one video can represent something that complex.
Ehhhh.... The Civilization V rap comes pretty close.
It's evolution, baby!
I think there definitely is a common thread of thought.
It's not religious at all but it's definitely showing the violence and destructive nature of humans and how technology will eventually lead to our own demise. I get the hint that the video is trying to show how humans have forgotten about god but this is totally expected as human knowledge grows. I enjoyed watching the video but it does a poor job of showing human history accurately. Sure we've fought countless wars and killed countless millions but I think it goes hand in hand with being intelligent. Learning from your mistakes ect. In order to reach a higher level of conciousness / awareness one must first go to war and learn from it. It might take a full nuclear war before humans stop going to war... Whatever the case I don't think an intelligence race can advance without first making mistakes.
I think it seems to represent the fact that whether or not humanity places a deity in an important place in their society they still find a way to fight each other - they fight over each others different idols after the "god" had revealed himself to them, they fight at the middle of the video and when industry starts to boom. They don't fight each other at the end, but it's still a horrible place by any of today's standards. I believe there is a religious undertone to it, the guy's always there, watching, as the guys fuck themselves over. The lines "Angels on the sideline, Baffled and confused. Father blessed them all with reason. And this is what they choose." doesn't really seem to be anything inherently religious about this, it's just mocking the religions that claim that their god gave them free will which is why humans do such fucked up things. It really seems to point out the fact that humans fight over petty things, and seem to love waging war over the smallest excuse:
Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky Fight over life, over blood, over prayer, overhead and light Fight over love, over sun, over another, Fight for each other, for the ones who are rising.
It's not the technology that this video claims will be our own demise, it's how we will use it. The evil bosses will use it to enslave their fellow man, which isn't far from what they were doing with technology before; killing each other endlessly. The creators of the video seem to want to emphasize humanity's carelessness about other living beings and the resources that they have.
Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around? Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys, Where there's one you're bound to divide it. Right in two. Monkey killing monkey killing monkey. Over pieces of the ground. Silly monkeys give them thumbs. They make a club. And beat their brother, down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery.
The main emphasis in the video that strikes me is the way that the humans exploit other living things to achieve power and dominance. It's not displaying humanity in general, but the worst of humanity, and what would happen if every human was a blood-hungry, war-mongering reckless douchebag, they would abuse what is well within our capabilities, as shown through our history. This luckily isn't the case, and this type of person is much rarer in our society today than it was a couple of thousand years ago.
You know a lot of videos, in fact most if not all videos, represent humanity. Just saying.
I already feel that the 'big people at the top' influance our views using media and beliefs. Do you think humanity may end up like that in the far future? a bit like the film 'equilibrium'?
That's no different than its always been. The only time our beliefs haven't been influenced by peer pressure is when we were cavemen with no beliefs to begin with.
humanity is bad
Yes and no. On average, humanity is 'bad'. Humanity is greedy, close-minded, insecure, and irrational as evidenced by our beliefs, society, economical systems, etc. This doesn't take individual variance into account though. If I were to go to the Middle East and say "There's no evidence behind your book and frankly I think morality is an arbitrary system" I would most likely be beheaded right on the spot. Likewise, if I were low on resources, I might go to war with another nation out of necessity. Of course, whether the above is "bad" or "good" is based entirely on perspective. The people who lopped my head off probably thought they did the most moral deed of their day. Anyways, the OP's video is nothing more than conservative propaganda, and really does nothing in explaining how lives have also improved in the last few hundred years. Even an Orwellian state would be better than living as a peasant.
