The funny thing is, if he could sing "poppier", this could actually be a hit
This is so spot on but I still liked the song he made.
Is it bad that I like Talk Dirty? It samples a good song and I think it actually improves on it. I am aware of its flaws, though, so I guess it's more of a guilty pleasure than anything.
I mean the guy obviously has some talent at recording quality vocal takes and instrumentation, and knows how to produce. I'm not defending the shittyness of most pop songs these days, but it's not like any old person could load up garage band and sing into their onboard mic and get the results he just showed. He probably spent more time than most people who read this thread realize getting it to sound how it did.
That being said, most popular music is so popular because of its simplicity. No one wants to hear complex counterpoint composition and such in top 40 music. It just doesn't work. Any producer worth their salt could make any number of cliche beats/instrumentals for pop songs, its a matter of so many other things (like being already famous for one).
On the other hand, lyrics in pop music are complete tripe.

It's lyrically absolutely fucking dumb but it's been a while since a song has been stuck in my head this fast and for this long.
Wow if a professional sung this song it would probably be a hit.
This is so hilarious and accurate it's sad.
Still have a guilty pleasure of loving some radio hits.

His movements and gestures throughout make this so much better.

It's not really guilty when they are specifically engineered to be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

It's worth noting that Brett Domino is a comedy character invented by professional musician Rob J Madin

I wonder how long it took him to actually make that song.
It's just like a Pitbull song
Man these are great.
I really hope he keeps using top 40 artists as a base for future episodes if there are more.

Thought this had to be shared
I miss the times where like, Alice in Chains and R.E.M were on the top 40 lists.
But that kind of music still exists today, you just gotta dig deeper to find it.

The vocal processing crap has gotten ridiculous. Take this for example:

Cringeworthy hilarity starts at the 2 minute mark. It's so bad that it's hard to believe it's actually him.

the 90s were a different time
I don't know why but Bruno Mars is like the only pop artist I like.
