Although video games are time consuming and can give false senses of accomplishment, I believe they have value. Not only do they entertain us, but they give us social skills along with hand-eye coordination. A typical gamer encounters many trolls or rule-breakers when playing online. Videogames teach us how to deal with those problems which can easily be applied to real life. I also believe that nothing is a waste of time if you have fun doing it.:eng101:

You need to really read up the rules of this forum before posting a new debate, especially posting 2.

the whole point of them is to waste time
What's wrong with posting two threads?
I believe people who play video games have better hand-eye coordination, but I'm not really sure how much better they are at it to where video games are pretty good.
I've only ever played them to pass time, so I don't really value them that highly.
I play games because I enjoy playing them and getting to know more people because of it - I mostly play multiplayer games and co-op games, because co-operative games are the best to get to know more people or just have some with your friends.
Also because my life is a bit fucked up from childhood I am stuck to videogames since pre-school.
It is a distraction from life. But if you're being educated and entertained, then there's nothing wrong with that. Edutainment is a fantastic way of getting kids (and adults) to learn and enjoy learning new things.
But if you are just doing it for fun, it is a waste of time.
Video games provide temporary happiness, comfort, and/or fun. But that feeling leaves you not long after you stop playing. You'd have to keep on playing the games and keep looking to get that same fun or even better fun. Because the enjoyment or pleasure you get from it, is temporary.
And that is what makes it a waste of your time. If it leaves you feeling unhappy again after the pleasure from playing passes and you have not accomplished what you feel you need to do in life, you have not helped yourself reach your goal. You've just distracted yourself.
Sure, you can use it to relax, but there are things you can do that are good for your health and are relaxing. So that way it is more beneficial to you.
Games are just like movies or music or any other form of art, IMO. They're a great way to relax, have fun, learn stuff (more from certain games than others, but still) and just pass the time, in general.
Video games can immerse you from reality and submerse you in a completely original and engaging universe
If you consider books or movies to be a waste of time, games probably are too
Video games are truely an art form. In games like Mass Effect (ME), God of War (GoW), Gears of war (GoW) I'm alloud to step outside myself and become other people. Whether it's shooting men in space in ME, killing things in GoW, or even killing things in GoW the range of tonal and stylistic worlds that video games create for us players to inhabit is truely breathtaking. Fortunately, since the arrival of the Citizen Kane of video games, which was the Greek States DLC Pack for Rome: Total War 2,the media is finally starting to take video games seriously as an artform and no, i'm not a nerd waste of life I'll say, my tears dripping onto my flaccid dick. im a video game buff. its just like a film buff. you wouldnt say those mean things about gene shalit's dick. nooo
Playing a game is not any different than reading a book or watching a movie to me. It's just interactive.
I'm talking about the ones with plots/stories, of course. Not tetris or pacman.
Video games are only a waste of time in the sense that TV, films, books, and any other recreational activity is a waste of time - i.e. not, provided you're enjoying yourself.

All pleasure is temporary - by this standard pretty much everything in life is a waste of time. You don't have to be working to accomplish something all the time - what's the point in doing that if you can never do anything just for the fun of it?
