Evidence is mounting that the U.S. economy is kicking into high gear.
Gross domestic product soared 5% on an annual basis in the third quarter, the government said on Tuesday.
To put that in perspective, it's the strongest quarter of growth since 2003.
"Other than the first quarter's weather-induced contraction, there's no doubt the economy has been great this year," said Dan Greenhaus, chief global strategist at BTIG.
Investors cheered the news, sending the stock market to record highs with the Dow crossing 18,000 for the first time ever.
It'll be used appropiatly a few times, then everyone will use it everywhere in terms of economics, and it will become a bannable meme.
Still got a while to go, but it looks like America is going on the right track.

Depends. How many Slightly Concerned Businessmen in change is that?
Paid $2.16 for regular today. Lowest price I can remember in almost a decade.

The lame duck congress has already repealed some of the financial regulations put in place only a few years ago. We'll probably be right back in 2008 economic dire straits in another 4 or 10 years. All dependent on how this Republican dominated legislature works out and who is elected president in 2016.
America does things right in fits and spurts.

It won't happen if we make the right choices in 2016.
Yeah, gas has been dropping a lot. 2 months ago it was like 3.30, and now it's under 3 bucks, in some places as low as 2.59.
2.10 here in chicago lol
$1.99 Gas at a dead empty gas station here in Texas. I finally have a little more cash left over than I remember.
Hooray! The gas price crisis is averted and we'll all forget about the ramifications of overdependence on fossil fuels until another gas price crisis.
It's like $0.97 here in Ontario and it's nice
Why is everyone talking about gas prices? They had pretty much nothing to do with this growth.

Roger that, funny is in the pipe, armed and ready.
Thanks Keystone Pipeline!
Won't be long until gas prices shoot up and the only suppliers are the middle east and russia due to destroying Europeans\Americas supply foundations.

What? That doesn't many sense. America's oil reserves are relatively untouched.
Sure wish that entrance level jobs paid a living wage.

It kinda has everything to do with this growth. The less money people have to spend on things they need (like gas to get to work), the more money they have left over to spend on things they don't need, pumping money into the economy, thus making it grow.
Neat. Now where's my decent paying(8-12 an hour) 9-5 that gives 40 hours a week and will hire people with no formal work experience?

It was 2.17/gal where I am two or three weeks ago.

lol, expecting to get a decent job with no previous work experience. Don't overvalue yourself.
Gotta start at the bottom, work at like a chicken processing plant, such high staff turnover that the job requirements are basically nil as long as they can get people.

Yeah, fuck me for wanting a living wage that would let me pay my way through college, afford to visit a doctor for the first time in over fifteen years, visit a dentist for the first time in nearly twenty, move into my own house, make a life for myself, and in general better myself, right?
thanks obama :3
If the economy is bad, Democrats will say that President Obama has little control over the economy.
If the economy is good, Democrats pounce on the opportunity for their party's de facto leader to claim responsibility for it.
Can we all accept that the president's actions alone have little consequence on the status of the economy?

With no formal work experience? You really do aim for the stars don't ya.....

No matey, if you want a decent job you need work experience first. Then you can find a job which will give you a living wage (which isn't as important if you still live with parents).

Those of who don't subscribe to the selfish creed of "conservatism" recognize that a person deserves a wage on which they can live outside of quasi-poverty regardless of age or experience. In a rich country, no person should live in poverty or destitution, and if a group of people do, each and every one of us should be ashamed.

You can either accept that you want people to do well in school and devote their time to attaining a university education for a chance at a better life or you can demand that they attempt to attain enough work experience to gain a living wage from an early age. You can't have it both ways. Common sense and numerous scientific studies demonstrate that working teens tend to obtain lower grades.
My grandfather would not allow for his daughters to work during high school or university, because he believed that education is the vocation of a young adult and that it is the cornerstone of a successful future.

8-12 an hour is not unreasonable. I have skills I can use if I can just get around the whole 'oh you need 2+ years of experience' hurdle. I can do work worth that sort of wage just fine, and honestly, it's not unreasonable of me to desire a job that pays that. IT's barely more than minimum fucking wage.
Not only that, but I can't get any formal experience. Not even at fucking McDonalds. Every two weeks since 2007 I've thrown apps at literally every business within 50 miles of my house that has a help wanted sign up and get nothing. They don't even have the balls to give me a fucking rejection letter. In that time I've had three responses, of those three, only one really went anywhere. The shop foreman at the trucking company my dad drives for was all ready to hire me, hell if it had been up to him I'd be turning wrenches on semi trucks right now. But no, corporate refused to let him hire me and forced him to take someone he didn't feel would fit the job. Why? I don't have two years as a line cook at a fast food joint on my resume. Simple as that.

So I guess it's totally unreasonable to want a job that makes enough money that I don't have to drive around in a car with 300,000+ miles on it? That I can make enough money to not be on the 'don't get hurt' health plan? That I can make enough money to not have to leech off my parents well into my mid 20s, that I can pay my own bills and pay my way through school?
It isn't. You and anyone saying the same thing are the ones being unreasonable. 8-12 an hour is not something 'in the stars' or 'too high' for someone with my skillset(In particular, fixing things, and all I have to do to prove it is point to the $500 beater I've been driving since 2007). I have the necessary skills to earn 8-12 an hour 40 hours a week. It's not unreasonable for me to want a job that'll fucking pay me that.
