SoundCloud's had a rough go of things over the past several years, and dropping its Groups feature doesn't seem to have helped its street cred. In its place the music streaming service has unveiled Stations, however, which mimics the ease of use of platforms like Pandora and Spotify.
It's been out on ios and android for while i believe but they recently just launched it on web.
It's pretty trash to be honest. It seems to pull from the 'recommended tracks' list for me, which more often than not is just a list of tracks 'liked' by the uploader. I upload house-like tracks, and if someone would stumble upon them and go 'oh this is nice, I want more like this' they'd click the Station button, yes? And they'd get more house music? Nope, harsh drum 'n bass because that's what I 'liked' on Soundcloud. A lazy implementation.
that's probably because stations take some songs from the related list (it might have the uploaders likes which may be different genres) and probably the more important issue is people can upload music with made up or completely wrong tags.
so in this case i'm not mostly faulting soundcloud for the stations sucking. i use it instead of related tracks since it's bascially related tracks in a random order, so that's pretty good enough for me.
soundcloud's mobile app is the worst piece of software that i have ever used on my phone
if i rigged an antenna directly into my skull and stood on a mountain, i would have greater success at getting the music that i actually wanted to through background signal than using that piece of shit fucking app
i once attempted to show how bad the app was to someone, but it fucking crashed as i was attempting to show it to them

people need to stop going into soundcloud like it's pandora. it's like the fucking youtube of music and their search algorithm is based off of not what the music hosted there actually is, but what the people who upload it say it is. tons of songs have the wrong genre, the songs people listen to one after another half the time aren't related at all, but soundcloud tries to salvage that broken information to make a station algorithm.
unless soundcloud makes a breakthrough that scans the wavelength of the songs to find a genre i would pretty much consider this feature broken by design.
but it does somewhat give me songs i like half the time so that's fine by me
(also the issue you're describing isn't the apps fault, cause the related tracks on PC are completly off as well)
now i can listen to my favorite soundclowns without having to alt tab out of minecraft

I once tried the Soundcloud app. It didn't matter which track I chose on the feed, it would always redirect to the same track.

You're right that it is nothing like Spotify, but I still think it's pretty cool to listen to a station based on one of your favorite artist's soundcloud likes. Not that I haven't already been going through their liked lists in the first place, but yeah.. It's still cool to me and I definitely find a lot of music I never would have.

Yeah i have no history with soundcloud, just used for the first time the other day for one thing and wow is it bad. Also 9.99 for offline listening LOL
Had pretty good experience with this feature so far.

Mines fine on my S6. Also it's never crashed on me...
I don't mind the addition, don't plan on using it as I scout out music that I would like to listen to on my own and it stays in my liked tracks.
Mistagging will cause quite a few bad recommendations on the Stations feature though I'd imagine. Either way, doesn't affect me much so I don't care a whole lot.
I remember when Soundcloud was the closest thing to "social media for musicians" as you could get. It's amazing how hard they've been fucking up in the past years.
