lmicreachtfy:Google-like NSA search engine implemented to learn about civilians
9 replies, posted
From PBS.org;Over 1,000 data analysts at 23 U.S. governmental agencies, including the DEA, FBI, and CIA, were given access to ICREACH — a Google-like search engine populated with hundreds of millions of records detailing e-mails, phone calls, instant messages, and phone geo-location...

I wonder if NSA recruits now wear propeller caps too?
finally, we can now successfully search "where is my phone"

Jokes on you, you could already do that!

well, maybe it will help to prevent a planned attack
maybe it might stop some attempts to blackout the infrastructure
maybe discover some sort of internet terrorist hideout
I mean, the criminal contacts might be anywhere
...And how is it Google-like?
It has a bar, a logo, and a blue search button?
Because searching on a database is pretty much the point of a search engine, so it's kind of redundant to use a search engine for a comparison.

let's explain this to the laymen,
"The NSA has devised a people search engin-"
"What's a search engine?"
"Well a search engine is a program that searches a database for relevant data based on a query"
*eyes gloss over*
"you know google? it's basicly google"
"OH, I know what google is, why didn't you just say so?"

That's some fucking incredible thinking, man.
So is this gonna be like in all those cop shows where a guy types in someone's name into a thing and it pops up windows with all of their info?

They type your name and drivers' license number in, there's a brief progress bar labeled "HACKING", and then they can watch your screen in real-time, no matter what you're using or where you are. Even if you're on an iPhone 3G on a 2G tower halfway up a mountain, the NSA's watching you check your text messages.
Trust me, my dad's friends with a guy who knows a guy who knows Snowden, totally legit.
But for real, of course the NSA would have something like this. The intelligence services are going to apply the same sort of techniques (or loads better, they've got the budget and the talent pool) as commercial companies take to handling Big Data. Billions and billions of records need different methods of storage, cataloging, and access.
and phone geo-location...
Time to get rid of my phone I guess.
