Steven, on the other hand, proclaimed his innocence from the start. Being a travelling punk out on the street, he didn't have the funds to get a decent lawyer, and he was sentenced to death. 3 months later, Marcus Rhodes admitted in a court room that he alone had shot and killed both victims.
This is a very long and complicated story. I urge everyone to take the time to read it. The state of Texas has not agreed to a retrial, though in the years he spent in isolation, he has gathered up enough evidence to be taken seriously. There has been an average of 5 exonerations a year in the last decade. These are people that would have been put to death if they had stopped fighting and accepted their unjust fate.
I have been staring at a blank page for days now. I don't know what to tell him. He is a brilliant man who only got to live until he was 21. I've been getting very emotional about this. I have typed this story many times without being able to post it here because I would get overwhelmed and terrified.
They're going to kill my friend. What do I tell him?

That definitely reminds us all of how crappy the government can be. I think that an appeal to release him definitely must have already been made, but that the old guy who takes care of who gets in or out of jail (that jail's warden) somehow passed over it or mistook it for an appeal to release some other dude that either died or is in solitary confinement. I'm absolutely 100% certain that someone's already tried to get him out of there (and I mean legally), but that someone, somewhere made it so that it would never work.
But quite honestly, I don't know what kind of messed-up, retarded fucktard would let something like that happen other than Kim-Jong-Il.

If he is executed, every cop, judge, prison staff member involved, all the way up to the fucking governor, needs to be charged with at least manslaughter
It's nice that the original killer stood up for Woods and confessed. He's still a murderer, but it's good to see even killers know bullshit when they see it.
It's a shame, too. Woods seems like an intelligent, upstanding citizen. Even if we manage to get him out before he's executed, a few idiots will probably still believe he did it.
