• [Survey] Help me by taking a quick survey for a game I'm making!

Hi. I made this quick survey to try and get a feel for what people would want in a game. First off, a bit of background information about the game:
Sol Prime is a PC game about space building, exploration, and conquest in real time. It builds around the idea of player driven research and development with as much freedom as possible. It is an isometric civilization builder in which you are encouraged to explore not only your planet, but the entire infinitely generated universe for new resources to use directly or combine with known resources to create new and improved alloys. All resources are generated, so the player must experiment to see what works and what doesn't. Some materials may work well for say, electric wiring, but be totally shit for armoring the hull of a ship. Given an almost infinite quantity of resources and space, the only limitation is your time and hard drive space.
But bl00d, what's in it for me? Sadly, money is tight and I can't really afford to do a raffle or anything. But I can offer my undying love. Alright, that all sounds great! Where can I take this survey? Right here! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/19LjUelOUiPOesdOTRlOvIld48h7L2aDGGU3JCoVLa_Q/viewform I really appreciate any responses I get, it will really help me get a grasp on which direction this game should go.
Good luck with the game, man!
Did it How are you going about making this game? Is there any other people on your team other than you? What is your programming background, and what language are you going to program this in? Custom engine or premade engine? I've been working on my own engine for what may or may not be a game later on down the road, in C++, making use of Qt Libraries. It's very satisfying to have built the amount that I have in 4 months

I am heavily considering writing some parts of it, especially on the server-side, in C++. I chose love because I have the most experience with Lua, coming from Gmod, and it allows for quite fast iteration of features. There hasn't really been a major commercial success from love, but there's really no reason it can't happen. And I don't expect this to be anything truly huge. If I had to choose again, I'm not sure I would have chosen love; it is surprisingly powerful, but the engine itself just seems to break at random. A few weeks ago I spent days trying to figure out why the camera movement was still affected by framerate even though I was adjusting for dt. Well, as it turns out, the dt that the engine was giving me was broken. I think that had something to do with using enet, but I ended up having to write my own dt. There are some other people on the team. One person has a job and is going to college, so his time is very limited at the moment, but he helps with programming when he can. The others aren't really contributing directly to this project, but when we are nearing launch they will help with the community stuff, answering questions on Kickstarter and the forums and all that. Incidentally, I do need to find an artist. Like I said above, I can't possibly afford to pay him anything, so it would have to be the typical 'you get money later!' deal. I had an artist, but then he stopped talking to me and has been ignoring me for 8 months. So that's fun. Thanks to everybody who has taken the survey, I have a solid idea on the direction the game will be going now.
Done, hope the game goes well
Haha who the fuck rated it dumb? Did it, good luck
Good luck
I'm tired of these motha fuckin' snak-, i mean surveys, on this motha fuckin forum!
I'm tired of these motha fuckin' snak-, i mean surveys, on this motha fuckin forum!
why? fp has a good deal of people who are pretty good to ask about this kind of thing.
To be honest, these kinds of game design questions sound like things you as a designer should be answering yourself according to your vision of the game, then testing with focus groups once at a playable stage, not crowdsourcing opinions on a public forum.
I know I already sent it in the survey, but I love thinking up the beginnings to games. I think you should start off with a rabble of misplaced refugees stranded on a planet next to some wreckage that yields enough salvage to get you started.
