Woah.. never heard of it before, what is it? THE EVƎNT is a science fiction thriller love story, a pretty good mix When does it air? In the United States it airs on Monday, September 20th, at 9pm/8 central on NBC Who directs this shit? Jeffrey Reiner, and the executive producer is Evan Katz. Now that I know more about this show, what is it about?
The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a man who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend, begins to discover the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.
Who's in it?
Main Cast Jason Ritter as Sean Walker Sarah Roemer as Leila Buchanan Laura Innes as Sophia Maguire Ian Anthony Dale as CIA Operative Simon Lee Scott Patterson as Michael Buchanan Taylor Cole as Vicky Roberts Lisa Vidal as First Lady Christina Martinez Bill Smitrovich as Vice President Raymond Jarvis with Željko Ivanek as Director of National Intelligence Blake Sterling and Blair Underwood as President Elias Martinez
So far the first episode has just aired, and it was pretty great in my opinion. It leaves many questions unanswered, but that is the way the show is supposed to work and they won't be. There is not a lot I could dig up so this is the best I could do.
I think it sounds really dumb. And all this generic vague mysterious conspiracy shit is stupid. I give it one season

"The Event": an exercise in seeing how long a writer can hook an audience on an extreme lack of information and never answering any questions, no matter how weird things get, from disappearances to using vague words like "they" to [sp]an airplane disappearing through a wormhole[/sp]. It might as well be called "The Cliffhanger". Fun fact: none of the cast and crew really know what "The Event" is, hoping to answer that question by the end of the series and hold audience interest through sheer curiosity in the mean time... Wait. Didn't "Xanadu" do the same thing? "Xanadu" started production without a clear direction and no ending, and its plot relied entirely on mysterious and strange events. Of course... *EXPLOSION! Military dudes run into Spaztique's room and hold him at gunpoint* Military Man: HAND OVER THE PACKAGE NOW!!! *TWENTY MINUTES EARLIER*
So far the first episode has just aired, and it was pretty great in my opinion. It leaves many questions unanswered, but will be in the next episode. There is not a lot I could dig up so this is the best I could do.
THEY'RE NOT GOING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS!!! That's arguably the point of the show! In fact, with how long the episode was in relation to the commercial breaks, the whole point of the show seems to be how long they can hook audiences over commercial breaks. If they answer any questions, it'll inevitably lead to disappointment after all the suspense they built up, and once your curiosity is satisfied, you'll no longer have a reason to watch the show. As for not being able to dig up anything on the show, you can't dig up anything because the show is nothing but vagueness. "A man discovers a secret that will change mankind and answers can only lead to bigger questions? Who can you trust? What will happen? What things will verb? What is 'The Event'?" But most importantly... *LOUD NOISE. A bright light shines in the room. Spaztique stares blankly off-screen.* *TO BE CONTINUED*
thƎ first ƎpisodƎ was prƎtty good [editline]03:35AM[/editline] [sp] On their website they have links to the "characters twitter pages" and the guy who's girlfriend fell off the cliff tweeted that he was going to skip the safari to go check on seans girlfriend and try to make her feel better"[/sp]
I don't know what to think of this show. The first episode didn't get me hooked but I'm willing to give it another chance.
I don't know what to think of this show. The first episode didn't get me hooked but I'm willing to give it another chance.
Same here, plus that part at the end with the plane.. :wtc:
i liked it but I only watched it because it seemed interesting and Chuck is on right before it
Saw this show last night... I like it. The way the show leaves so many questions and is very vague got me hooked. I also like wormholes and planes disappearing.
Australia is building it up a shit load. Is the cruise ship thing and the airplane thing all in the same episode?
I'm confused.
I don't like the time hopping. It serves no purpose that I can see, other than leaving empty holes in the story that can be filled in later, but here's my problem with that: [sp]Take the guy and the pilot. We know there is a blank period between the gf disappearing/kid getting kidnapped and when they both wind up on the plane. So a future episode can fill in the blank of exactly what happened in that time. Who cares? We already know they don't crash into the President, and we know they get 'taken' out of thin air- all I care about is how/why THAT happened and where they are now. This story needs to only move forwards not backwards. Lost at least used the flashbacks to draw the characters, these Event flashbacks aren't. They are telling us plot points that we should have got in chronological order to create suspense.[/sp] There are other, small idiot moments. Such as: Guy on plane NOT telling the air marshal anything useful("I'll tell you on the ground"), why? Just typical stupid television writing. President being hustled away, yes we know from real life(ala Reagan shooting) that it happens exactly like that...except they all stop to look. Idiotic. Overall though I'd say there is a lot of potential to this concept. I hope they iron out the problems as they go.
It's like Lost except without being remotely interesting

Well it turned out to be back to the future except a plane
It's like flash forward, it will try to hard to force a mystery in an attempt to be better than Lost.
So this is like Fringe and Lost crammed together and then sprinkled with a bit of politics?

stay inside!!
I actualy found it pretty cool! And I watched Lost religiously.. Flashforward tried to hard to make the story. This is simple. That's what makes it good to me.
*spazzing out*
if you knew so much about the show, how come you didn't make a thread?
It's like Lost except without being remotely interesting
It's like Lost only without any attempts at character development, horrible editing, time-jumps that would make a kid with ADD rage... oh wait, this is sounding a LOT like FlashForward! Now I do enjoy a good conspiracy/paranoia film or TV show, but geeze... the time-skips are probably the most rage-inducing part of the whole show.
I loved Lost and Flashforward. Lets hope this lives up to predecessors.
Lost jumped around in time, but always according to a formula that the viewer could immediately understand. Even in dumb episodes, like with Kate's plane, it was easy to understand what part was 'now' and what part wasn't. And it was easy to see what relevance the flashback had to what was going on now in the island. The Event doesn't have that yet. The time jumps seemed completely random. We see some stuff twice, why? No reason that I can tell. They need to make sure the time jumps serve a purpose beyond just copying Lost.
sounds retarded.
way too much flashback... [editline]09:23PM[/editline] the president is always a black guy. [editline]09:23PM[/editline] not that that is a bad thing... [editline]09:25PM[/editline] jeez another flashback...
THEY'RE NOT GOING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS!!!
in the ads for the show, they keep saying that the answers will be revealed [editline]9:23[/editline] just watched the second episode, very exciting and "not going to answer any questions!!!" my ass
way too much flashback... [editline]09:23PM[/editline] the president is always a black guy. [editline]09:23PM[/editline] not that that is a bad thing... [editline]09:25PM[/editline] jeez another flashback...
A Cuban, at that.
I'm confused.
:lost: It's trying to be that like. [editline]04:02PM[/editline]
way too much flashback...
It's like flash forward, it will try to hard to force a mystery in an attempt to be better than Lost.
I liked Flash Forward. It was one of the only shows that actually dealt with questions regarding free-will and determinism. The first episode of The Event was shown here in Australia last night. I thought it seemed alright, but I know they're just gonna pull a Lost and end up raising tonnes of questions that never get answered. If they DO answer them though, and satisfyingly... well... that'll shut me up.
Flashforward would of ended up with that other guy dying ending up being a hero, and Mark getting back with Olivia in the end.
