White House considers eliminating council focused on female empowerment
The Trump administration is currently debating the future of the Council on Women and Girls, an initiative created by former President Barack Obama at the beginning of his presidency, a senior White House official said.“We want the input of the various agencies to understand the assets they have so that we make this office additive, not redundant,” White House Director of Strategic Communications Hope Hicks said in a statement given to ABC News.
“The White House is evaluating the best positioning of this office going forward (and other legacy Obama offices) but continue to move policies benefiting working families (and women) forward such as paid family leave, child care tax credits, STEM education for girls, workforce development, apprenticeship programs and more,” Hicks wrote.
The White House Council on Women and Girls was created by President Obama through an executive order during his second month in office. Since 2009, the council's mission has been to ensure that agencies across government "take into account the needs of women and girls in the policies they draft, the programs they create, [and] the legislation they support." Obama's longtime friend and senior advisor, Valerie Jarrett, and Michelle Obama's chief of staff, Tina Tchen, served at its helm.
The march to erase Obama continues.

As if the GOP and current ruling party needed any extra incentive to work against women's rights.
Not a surprise coming from the man who likes to grab 'em.
Unsurprising to say the least.
I honestly hope future presidents will restore Obama's Legacy, it's so sad to see the GOP literally doing everything they can to erase all the work Obama did.

They're driving their own reputation into the ground so hard that it's actually kinda impressive. Even a lot of Republicans are starting to become more skeptical of their actions and intentions at this point.

alienating all the fasting-growing portions of the population is a dead-end strategy, and gerrymandering and Rorschach candidates like Trump are their band-aid solutions to avoid acknowledging that. meanwhile there's more Barracks and Bernies being born every day. they can do what they want with his legacy - Obama already has the future on his side.

But there's limits to that too. Most of the Republican supporter base falls into two main groups. Those who feel they benefit from the Republican fiscal policy (though they often don't) or those who fall for their rhetoric. The fact that I come from a staunchly blue state may be relevant here (our Republicans are more likely to be socially liberal, for example) but I've seen a lot more Republicans speaking out against not only Trump in particular but how the Republicans in Congress are acting. And that number keeps growing. The more they keep acting this way the more they erode and disenfranchise their own support base.
Programs like these don't matter. In legacy companies if the feds come knocking on your door and say you need more women in your engineering department suddenly 20 new engineering assistant positions at less pay show up. These kinds of problems are cultural problems where no matter how much you legislate the corporations and employers will find a way around it. Generally when groups like the women empowerment councils pressure Federal agencies and thus employers, it's usually the employees that bite the bullet.
Now this is assuming that the White house council of women and girls actually had some kind of power and wasn't a token gesture aimed at getting public support.
It's funding was derived completely from the chamber of commerce and served little other than being an echo chamber at Obamas side. it was a group of 3 people who could make suggestions to federal agencies but that was it, they could not enforce any kind of policy. Regardless of Trumps intent I'm glad to see it go. The whole premise screams of a nepotistic relationship Between Barack Obama and Valerie Jarett.
