It's because people run it into the ground and have no idea what moderation is. If these threads popped up every once in a blue moon because of interesting stories that happen to involved a Floridian male, as opposed to literally any story that stars "florida man," then it'd last longer and everyone would enjoy it more.

Not only is this a great story, but I think the Florida Man meme is still pretty funny.
