Courageous Pastor Defends President Obama’s Endorsement Of Same-Sex Marriage
Since President Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage, he’s received lots of support. Fellow Democrats have joined the President in calling for marriage equality and polls across the country are showing that even more people, including African-Americans, are standing with the President on this issue. Right-wing Christian groups, however, absolutely do not support the decision, and want to continue discriminating against the LGBT community based on what they read in the Bible. But one Dallas pastor not only delivered an extraordinary and inspiring sermon endorsing same-sex marriage, he also defended President Obama for doing so.Pastor Frederick Haynes of the Friendship-West Baptist Church gave a sermon criticizing his own congregation and fellow pastors for standing against marriage equality, explaining that the Bible isn’t the law of this nation and that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. Haynes also pointed out the President Obama’s oath is to the Constitution, which is the true law of the land:
“He [Obama] swore upon oath to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution, not the Bible, but the Constitution of the United States,” Haynes declared proudly. “He is not the pastor of the United States, but the president of the United States. And for the first time in the history of this nation, we have a president who has dared to use his position to make the democratic promise available, not just for a select few who are up and in, but for everybody, regardless of their race, their creed, their color, or their sexual orientation! And my brothers and sisters, I salute the President.”
Haynes then posed a question to his flock:
“Have you ever read the Gospel and heard Jesus say anything about homosexuality?”
So does my pastor, he says "I honestly have no opinion on it, I haven't seen a gay guy attack a bunch of straight people for no reason, I'd be happy to do gay marriages here"
I'm glad the culture is starting to change. Still sad how this is a "courageous" position to take though.
I want to talk like this guy.
"...Jesus never said anything about homosexuality."
About damn time someone pointed that out.

Yeah, my pastor also said "Maybe Jesus did say something about it, but it wasn't put down in the bible so, who knows? Maybe he accepted gay men, I don't know!"

I think that Jesus and Peter had a lil' somethin' somethin'.

Judas got jelly and tried to get Jesus out of the picture

At least they kissed.
That's nice of him but it's still technically going against their general doctrine as a whole since while Jesus technically never really spoke out against homosexuality, God did, and they would both be the same person so... :v:
I think god only really spoke against non-reproductive sex.
Wasn't homosexuality specifically condemned though?
I think god only really spoke against non-reproductive sex.
No actually, non reproductive sex is perfectly fine, the idea of non reproductive sex being a sin is a catholic thing decided by catholic theologians.
18:22 Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
From what I've seen the moderate Christians around here interpret this as "Gay sex is detestable but the bible doesn't say anything about just being gay"
then again it's not mentioned much and Leviticus is not the best example of core values
This will probably start a trend where more and more pastor's are pro same-sex marriage.

Quick! Someone make a Stained Glass version of that in Photoshop!
Some people say 2012 is going to be the end of the world.
I say, it's the end of prejudice against gay marriage.
Which for some (ridiculous conservatives), may feel like the end of the world. :v:

what do you think gay people do? Its okay to be gay if you rob them of their sexuality?
what do you think gay people do? Its okay to be gay if you rob them of their sexuality?
The same thing that unwed teenagers do?
This will probably start a trend where more and more pastor's are pro same-sex marriage.
There are already a lot of people in the Church and Christians who support it, it's just they aren't vocal about it

So you would rather they crusade against Gays because the Bible said so?
So you would rather they crusade against Gays because the Bible said so?
It's funny that some people suggest that. Because 99 percent of gays can just blend in with no effort.

I don't see where he hinted at wanting that to happen. What he was saying is technically correct also. The pastor is obviously trying to be kind and fair but it is pretty difficult to find a justification in the bible for tolerating homosexuality.

Bible fanfic
My priest at my Catholic church supports gay rights too, said he believes that we shouldn't mind someone's sexual identity so long as they're a good people.
jesus and tails were out on a walk and suddenly rose came out of nowhere and asked jesus

how about, love thy neighbour as you love thy self? just consider it 'love' in the physical sense.......
Or MAYBE just allow conscientious couples to marry.
There are some disgusting people who should totally not get married and are not good influence for kids, but being a homo doesn't necessarily mean that. And vice versa for straights.
A family friend who is a priest is deeply against gays but otherwise he is an amazing guy. The people who taught he originally taught him to be against gays. Funny part is you would never guess he would hate them he's so nice.
He doesn't go around protesting them and speaking about them he just disagrees and refuses to accept them. Wish he would change/give up being a priest forever
I still don't get how America can purport to be the "land of the free" when it denies its citizens basic freedoms like the right to marry whomever they want, and the right to free healthcare.
so apparently because the freedoms given to states to decide who can marry and who can't automatically means that it's not the "land of the free"? are you forgetting the uncountable freedoms we as citizens have compared to other states and illegal citizens?
