Such voicemails could be prerecorded political messages or even advertisements. The so-called "ringless voicemail" idea has been on the FCC's docket since March,
It's like they know they're not going to get reelected so they're just trying to do as much loathesome shit as they can while they're still in office
that is pretty damn scummy lmao
What the fuck kind of shit is that? Are you being serious?
Just wow. How long will it be until we have true honest-to-god megacorp bullcrap?
"Such voicemails could be prerecorded political messages" I can imagine that going so well. "Vote for us! The twats who filled your voicemail with this shite!"
"Let's make voicemail completely fucking useless"

Again, any semblance of being the 'small government party' is just gone now the republican party is the corporate party, they exist to push corporate interests by using American patriotism as a tool, and by manipulating 'the common blue collar worker' by preying on their fears and identities I'm sure being able to push bigot stuff is a bonus for them but the primary goal for today's republican party is to create a future as steeped in ads and corporate power as possible
why do they want this wont they be spammed to hell and back themselves?
Buckle up buckaroos, cyberpunk here we come
hahahahahaah its like they want as many people to hate them as humanly possible
"Let's make voicemail completely fucking useless"
If this passes I can almost guarantee somebody like Apple or Google will basically invent their own first-party voicemail service just like they've done with messaging platforms. It'd honestly be a welcome change, voicemail sucks already and if these absolute fucking retard Republicans pass this, it'll be completely useless anyway.
I've actually wished I could leave a voicemail without risk of them actually picking up or waking them up before though
why do they want this wont they be spammed to hell and back themselves?
Uh, no? You think Congressmen listen to their voicemail? No, that gets sent to the interns and staffers that manage all that for them. These are people that literally have servants that manage their lives, they just get paid to do it. Politicians are on an entirely separate level from the rest of us. Some of them are better, some are worse, but unless they're new or elected on a grassroots platform they're generally detached from reality in a very literal sense.

What's the point in a voicemail for ads anyways cant they shoot texts or emails
Excessive corporate power is functionally identical to excessive government power. Both are stifling, dystopian, and fucking annoying.

Preferably in a fashion that doesn't break any real laws.
because robo-dialing and bill collectors calling recycled phone numbers isn't annoying enough already
Oh boy, proprietary and 'walled garden' voicemails.
i mean, both apple and google have shown they're against things like these, so there may be a chance they would work together on it.
With emails its not an issue to get cold emailed spam because of how easy it is to unsubscribe or maintain one address just for sign ups and promotions. I can't exactly go around having tow phone numbers to separate that ad spam.
There's not even an argument here for having this exist. It's just "I do what the money says and the money says voicemail advertisements should be a thing."
When can I expect one of them fat cats breaking into my home into the most obnoxious way possible doing the ad himself as the next level of intrusion?
Oh boy, proprietary and 'walled garden' voicemails.
I don't see why it'd be a bad thing as long as it still works. Standard voicemail is a pretty terrible and archaic feature in the world of smartphones. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "walled garden" or anything like that anyway, I know Google was experimenting at one point with Android where you basically had a visual list of your standard carrier voicemails and you could manage them that way instead of doing the dialpad stuff.

There is zero benefit to having advertising and political propaganda forced into your voicemail

did anyone actually read what srobins is talking about he's not talking about the ads hes talking about voicemail having providers like gmail/yahoo has for email
